HSIE
As we approach the end of the year, it's a great time to reflect on the busy and productive term in the HSIE faculty. Our students, from Year 7 to Year 12, have been deeply engaged in a wide range of subjects, developing critical skills and expanding their knowledge of the world around them. Here's a brief overview of what each year group has been working on.
Year 12 - A strong finish to the HSC journey
Year 12 has successfully completed their Trial HSC exams, marking a significant milestone in their final year. The HSIE content for their subjects is now complete, and the focus has shifted to intensive revision and refinement. Students have been actively engaging in activities designed to hone their literacy skills and perfect their exam techniques. We're very pleased with the results so far, and there are some incredibly promising students with the potential to achieve Band 6 results in the upcoming HSC exams. Their hard work and dedication are truly paying off.
Year 11 - Stepping up to the HSC challenge
Our Year 11 students have completed their Yearly Exams and are ready to transition to the next phase of their academic journey. Next term, they will officially begin their HSC content. To help them prepare, a new assessment handbook will be distributed, which will be a crucial tool for them to map out their studies and start planning their preparation. The HSIE teachers are excited to guide them through this new stage and support them in achieving their academic goals.
Year 10 - Preparing for yearly assessments
Year 10 students are currently preparing for their yearly assessments, which will take place next term. We encourage them to use the upcoming holidays wisely to review and revise their content. This proactive approach will put them in an excellent position to succeed and set a strong foundation for the year ahead.
Years 7-9
Our junior students have been on a fantastic journey through a variety of engaging topics this term. Students have explored human wellbeing through a geographical lens, using various tools to understand how factors like wealth and access to education affect communities both locally and globally. Other classes have examined the function of government and learned about the history of the Stolen Generations, while some have investigated the distribution and management of water resources around the world.
Year 7 students in Ms Taylor’s class also concluded their unit on Ancient China by crafting their own miniature Terracotta Army from clay. They worked to capture the intricate details of the original warriors, paying close attention to different ranks of soldiers and their distinct armour and weaponry. Their focus on historical accuracy, from the layered armour of the generals to the simple robes of the archers, demonstrated deep understanding of the unit. The result is a fantastic collection of unique clay warriors that provides a fun and personal connection to the history studied.
Farewell
Finally, I want to take a moment to announce that I will be stepping down from my role as relieving Head Teacher at the end of this term. It has been a great privilege to lead the HSIE faculty and to work alongside such dedicated colleagues in providing a high standard of education for our students. I've particularly enjoyed getting to know more students across the school and supporting them in their learning. We are all looking forward to welcoming the new Head Teacher, Mr. Robert Leaver, who will be joining us next term.
Mr. Sandy Free
