The first two weeks of Term Four will focus on the Graduating Class of 2025 and electing the 2026 Student Leaders. Cowan House will welcome its inaugural House Captain and Prefect - and we will need a student body to support them.
During Chapel in Week 3 next term, Head of Cowan House, Mr Edwards and the two Year 12 Student leaders will invite Years 7 to 10 to express interest in joining Cowan House via an online form, due by the end of that week.
Parents/guardians of applicants will be contacted for confirmation for change of House, with responses due by Week 5. Students with negative responses or without confirmed responses will remain in their current House. New PCGs will be formed with teachers who have opted to join Cowan House, which may lead to changes in other Houses.
Whilst such changes can be anxious for some students, it is also an exciting time in this history of the school. This will likely be the only time that a new house is established.
We are also introducing a new leadership role in 2026: Year 9 Prefect. With separate lower and upper school chapels now the new normal, our Year 12 Leaders cannot support both gatherings year-round, despite the great diligence in which the current Year 12 leaders have carried out their duties it has been decided to offer an opportunity for Year 9s to support the leadership of these Chapel Servies and House events.
Each House therefore will elect two 2026 Year 9 Prefects from the current Year 8 cohort at the end of Term 4 to become the inaugural Year 9 House Prefects and lead our middle school chapels for the following year. Nominations will be followed by a vote, and more details will be shared once Cowan House is established. This again is a wonderful opportunity for leadership outside of Year 12.
Wishing you all a restful break, whether you’re travelling or enjoying a staycation. Term Four promises exciting developments.
