This week we celebrated Mrs Danielle de Witt, our Coordinator of Foreign Languages, for her remarkable 25 years of dedicated service to AngliSchools.
Mrs de Witt’s journey in Anglican education began in 2000, when she started sharing her love of languages with students at Murdoch College before transitioning to be a foundation member of St George’s Anglican Grammar School staff in 2015. Mrs de Witt has taught Japanese, Indonesian and since 2019 Mandarin when St George’s introduced Mandarin into the curriculum.
At a special morning tea this week, Mrs de Witt was recognised for her incredible 25-year contribution to teaching at AngliSchools by the CEO of AngliSchools, The Reverend Peter Laurence OAM.
Not only did PE teacher Miss Raynor play in her netball grand final last weekend for the West Coasters, taking out the win by 15 points, she was named both Best and Fairest and Club Person of the Year!
Some of our PE staff were lucky enough to head down and cheer her on, and it was fantastic to see many St George’s students also competing in their own grand finals that weekend.
Meet a champion of public speaking! Izabella represented the Perth Rotary Club at the State final
s of the Four-Way Speaking Competition, held in Geraldton, where she addressed the crowd about the importance of media literacy and critical reasoning in today's political climate.
The Rotary Four-Way Speaking Competition is a public speaking event for high school students, usually Year 10s, where they develop skills in listening, reading, public speaking, and creative writing by presenting a speech on a topic of their choice that aligns with the Rotary Four-Way Test.
Izabella, who was accompanied by her family and supported by Mr Kerrigan, was crowned runner-up: “It was my first time in Geraldton and the experience allowed me to become a more confident public speaker and develop my skills,’’ she said. “It also exposed me to a wide range of people with different stories from each Rotary club, hearing different perspectives on a wide range of important topics and sharing my beliefs as well.”
Lawson has been invited to play with the WAAPA percussion ensemble 'Defying Gravity' to do a series of concerts from 18-20 September. The concerts are entitled 'Carnivale' which will have a focus on Japanese and Latin American drumming.
Soon-to-be-graduate Isabelle has two extra reasons to smile as the holidays begin. After completing a Certificate II in Workplace Skills at Fremantle Education Centre recently, our school received a glowing email from her lecturer saying Isabelle’s work was outstanding and they would use it as a future marking key.
Meanwhile, Isabelle’s artwork was chosen for the basis of all the promotional materials of our upcoming Creative Arts Exhibition – what a superstar!
Some more great news for St George’s. Our star Year 8 runner, Fieke, has been selected in the 2025 ACC All Stars Athletics Team for 800m and 1500m. Incredibly, she won the 1500m by 15 seconds faster than her next rival.
Last year's Lincoln Captain Sadie made her post-school stage debut this week in the original performance 'GLASS' at the University of WA - a realism piece about friendships and relationship conflicts. Drama teacher Miss McGaw reports: "She was incredible!'' Sadie is pictured second from the left.
We finish this edition of The Dragon with some visiting 'superstar relatives' of the Fletcher siblings, Sam (Year 10) and Harriet (Year 8). After school every day this week, Harriet and Sam have been greeted at the door of 50 William St by their UK relatives dressed to the nines in a different theme each pick up. Yesterday it was the fully Aussie theme that greeted Happy holidays one and all!
