St George’s sure has talent

Today’s Mandela House Charity Day finished Term Three with a bang! The event showcased the multiple talents of our students and staff who performed on stage before a packed Level 2 of 441 Murray Street.

Our House charity days bring us together as one big family and it is always lovely to see the friendships across year groups and support of all students at these termly celebrations. What I can say is that St George’s definitely has got talent!

Term Three has been huge for everyone. And it is thanks to the collective efforts of our incredible staff, the enthusiasm and commitment of our students, and the ongoing support and partnership with our parents, guardians and caregivers. With so many “firsts” as we have transitioned relatively seamlessly to life across a dual city campus, the students have been exceptional in adjusting to change. I have been in awe of how they have taken in their stride the walk between the two buildings, with many relishing in the opportunity to demonstrate their responsibility as ambassadors of the school being out and about in the city as long as they are ‘walking the right way’.

The feedback that I have received as Principal of St George’s Anglican Grammar School from businesses and users of the city who have crossed paths with our students on a daily basis has been overwhelmingly positive. Our students have been courteous, polite and respectful – I congratulate them all.

Leadership roles

Today, the Year 11s who put themselves forward for leadership will receive notification via SEQTA from Mr Ian Thompson, Dean of Students & Wellbeing, as to whether their nominations have been successful or not. I would like to take this opportunity to thank these students for ‘Finding their Brave’ to want to give back to the school in being part of our Year 12 Student Leadership Team. We had more than 40 students to consider and only 20 leadership roles. To those selected – congratulations. To those who have missed out on a formal leadership role, please know that there are plenty of other opportunities for you to lead as the Year 12 Class of 2026 and I encourage you to stand up and use your skills to do so. I look forward to working alongside all of you as you step into the shoes of our current Year 12s who are now enjoying their last few days of their formal high school educational journey.

The announcement of the Year 12 Student Leadership Team will occur at the Handover Assembly on Monday, 20 October at St George’s Cathedral commencing at approximately 1.20pm. This event will be live-streamed so that the whole school community can be part of this special celebratory occasion as we announce our School Captains and Prefects from the Class of 2026.

Mock exams over, a recharge begins

As mock exams finished this week for our Year 12 ATAR students, my hope is that their results give them the trajectory that they wish as they work through their last few classes before their WACE. They have been an outstanding group of young adults who have led the school with heart and kindness.  I encourage them to take a well-deserved rest and break away from their studies during the first week of the September school holidays giving their bodies and brains time to recharge before getting back into their books in the second week.

Parents toast our new campus

As the term concludes I wanted to thank all of you who attended our recent Parent Sundowners, a highlight of the term for me. I hope you enjoyed a wander through our wonderful new facilities that our students, your children, now enjoy as part of their school day and that you reconnected with old friends and perhaps even established new friendships during the course of the evening too. I am thrilled that this year we have been able to establish a Friends of St George’s Parents Society which aims to bring our families together outside of the school. With the diversity of our student body coming from suburbs all over Perth, the work of this group is important in building strong connections and camaraderie amongst all St George’s families. I encourage you to attend these events whenever you can.

Amazing things continue to happen every day at St George’s Anglican Grammar School. With holidays now upon us and brighter weather, I encourage everyone to take some well-deserved rest. I look forward to welcoming you all back to Term Four on Tuesday 14 October with renewed energy and ready to continue to Find Your Brave together as we conclude the 2025 school year.

Warm wishes,

Mrs Tina Campbell
