Week 9 Term 3

Dear Parents and Carers,

It's hard to believe another term has gone by and we are approaching Spring and another Christmas. Thank you to my dedicated staff who are continuously seeking improvement in all areas of school life, especially caring and supporting your children with their learning to be the best people they can be. Thank you to all the parents who support St Fidelis in many ways. Thank you to the students who bring St Fidelis School alive everyday.

Farewell and Birthday Celebration for Leonie

This Friday, we will farewell Leonie O’Brien at assembly, marking an incredible milestone in her journey with St Fidelis. Leonie has been part of our school community since 1993, dedicating 32 years of service as an Education Support staff member and in various other roles throughout the years.

In addition to celebrating her remarkable career, Leonie will be turning 70! on Thursday. We are grateful for her dedication, positivity, and the many ways she has supported both staff and students over the years.

Everyone is asked to join us at assembly on Friday as we honour Leonie and celebrate her incredible contributions to our school community.

Have your circumstances changed? Are you not returning to St. Fidelis in 2026? Please contact the office before the end of Term 3 to discuss your intentions. I have a waiting list of other families for different year levels. I can offer your child’s position to other families.

There are currently 38  families with outstanding fees, and we kindly ask that payments be made by the due date. Your contributions are vital in supporting the smooth running of our school and providing the best learning resources and opportunities for our students. If you are experiencing any difficulties, please don’t hesitate to contact the office we are here to support you.

Working Bee

Please also save the date – Saturday, October 25th – for our School Working Bee. This will be a wonderful community event and a chance for us all to work together on some spring cleaning tasks such as:

  • Topping up sand in the sandpit
  • Raking leaves
  • Refreshing the chipbark
  • General tidy-up jobs to keep our grounds looking beautiful

We look forward to seeing many of you there and working side by side to keep our school such a welcoming place for our children and community. More details will follow soon.

SUNSMART: Wearing of  Hats

St Fidelis is a SunSmart School and our policy reflects the recommendations of the SunSmart organisation. The Bureau of Meteorology provides information about the times of day UV levels are forecast to reach 3 or higher, meaning that sun protection is recommended for all skin types. In Victoria UV levels regularly reach 3 or higher from mid – August to the end of April.

As part of general SunSmart strategies, our school:

  • Requires all students and staff to wear hats that protect the face, neck and ears (legionnaire, broad-brimmed or bucket style) and suitable clothing whenever they are outside (e.g. recess, lunch, sport, excursions)
  • Requires children outdoors without hats to sit in a designated shaded area during play times from the beginning of September to the end of April or whenever UV levels reach three or more. NO HAT- NO PLAY.

All staff and parents are encouraged to access the daily local sun protection times via the free SunSmart app, or at sunsmart.com.au or the widget on our website.

All children are to wear hats beginning next term. We will be give the children and families the first week to remember that a hat will be required from 6th October until the end of April.
