Errol Street (Senior) Campus Updates

From Sarah, Principal

Southside Toilet Refurbishment

As you may be aware we have been slowly making improvements to our Errol Street (Senior) Campus. As part of these improvements, the School Council submitted a proposal to the VSBA for the school to fund a refurbishment of the toilets on the southside of the school back in 2022.

We are pleased to announce that this proposal was accepted late 2022, and after following the VSBA’s process, we have now engaged a contractor to complete the refurbishment. We envision these works will begin before the end of the 2023 school year with a practical completion date of late January/early February 2024.

While the student toilets on the southside are being refurbished, students will be directed to use the two toilet blocks on the north side of the school.

We look forward to opening our newly refurbished southside toilets for student use early 2024.

University High School Construction Update (as published on Compass)

As you know, a new modular toilet block will be installed over the coming weeks at North Melbourne Primary School for University High School Galileo students to use from Day 1, Term 1 in 2024.

This additional toilet block, which will be located near the sandpit on the southside of our school, will ensure that University High School students and North Melbourne Primary School students use separate toilet facilities.

Following consultation with the school leadership team, site engineers and planners, the chosen site has been deemed by the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) to be the least intrusive to play areas and plant life and is the sole location available that will ensure the continued provision of the Department of Education’s occupational health and safety standards.

To support upcoming works, four trees will need to be removed to make way for the new facilities. They are,

  • 3x Brachychiton
  • 1x Corymbia maculata (spotted gum)

A Schinus molle (peppercorn tree) will also be pruned to remove a large low limb growing near the base of the tree.

Tree removal and trimming is scheduled for next week.

To offset any loss of biodiversity from removing native vegetation during capital works, the VSBA will plant at least two trees of a comparable species for every tree removed, in line with their tree removal and replacement policy.

If you have any questions about the North Melbourne Primary School works, you can contact the VSBA by phone at 1800 896 950 or email vsba@education.vic.gov.au.

I appreciate your cooperation and patience during this project.
