Year 6 News

From Elly, Year 6 teacher

Year 6 have been busy creating math board games for the Preps. Ideas have ranged from learning about 2D shapes and time to skip counting. We have actually enjoyed playing them ourselves!

Cooking for our Farewell Celebration

Students have been busy in the kitchen preparing their picnic dinner for the Year 6 Farewell Celebration. Kristen and Erin have helped us to prepare a delicious menu to enjoy as we say goodbye to NMPS.

To start, students will enjoy garlic bread, followed by handmade pizza with a range of toppings. For something sweet, there will be spiced cookies for dessert and ginger citrus cordial. Everyone was very eager to get back to chopping, stirring, kneading and baking after a break since Term 2. The taste tests were successful and 100% student approved. We are looking forward to celebrating a brilliant year with staff, family and friends - see you there!

This week students created their own Town Hall Meetings where they debated the proposal of a new grandstand at the Arden St Oval. The classes broke into teams representing the following groups of the community:

  1. North Melbourne Football Club
  2. The Building Company
  3. Protection of the Orange Bellied Parrots
  4. Local Community Association
  5. The Traditional Owners, and
  6. The North Melbourne Pool

They presented their cases for or against the development of the new grandstand across two town hall meetings where they considered the viewpoints of the other groups and negotiated alternatives. In the end, the majority of 6A voted for a new grandstand to be built. They believe this will increase participation and viewership of the Australian Football League Women, get more kids outdoors and raise money for the community.
