ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY

Milgate Primary School would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land of the Wurundjeri People, and we would like to pay our respects to the elders both past and present. YEAR 6 EXHIBITION

The Year 6 students embarked on their Year 6 Exhibition Journey, delving into the theme of action. On Wednesday evening, they shared their discoveries and community projects with parents, delivering an impressive showcase of their hard work. Congratulations are in order for both the students and their dedicated teachers.

At the start of the year, they engaged in various activities, such as Incursions and Zoom calls, to interact with individuals who have taken meaningful actions. Throughout the year, the students applied the knowledge they had gained to run lessons in other classes across the school; teaching students of all ages about their cause and how to take action themselves. Their dedication and passion were evident in each project, resulting in lasting improvements to Milgate.

YEAR 3 EXCURSION | SHRINE OF REMEMBRANCE

As part of our inquiry into 'Where we are in Place and Time', the Year 3 cohort went on an excursion to the Shrine of Remembrance and the Melbourne Museum. During our visit to the Shrine, students were guided through a meaningful tour, prompting thoughtful reflection on its significance as a way of historical remembrance. This excursion provided a deeper understanding of how societies honour and remember their past, particularly in the context of major historical events.

At the Melbourne Museum, the students had the opportunity to explore the First Peoples Gallery trail, investigating the connections that the First Peoples have with their land and culture. It offered a chance to appreciate the diverse stories and traditions that have shaped our local community.

This excursion not only broadened our students' knowledge but also instilled a sense of connection with the history and culture of their own community. It was a valuable and memorable part of their learning experience.

SCHOOL FUN RUN

Today, our school came alive with enthusiasm and excitement as Foundation to Year 6 students gathered for the much-anticipated School Fun Run. This event wasn't just about running laps; it was a dynamic and exhilarating adventure that brought our entire school community together to support a wonderful cause.

The goal? To raise funds for updating one of our beloved playgrounds. With each lap completed, students were not only improving their fitness but also contributing to their House points, with the winning house having the opportunity to pour water over Miss Mancarella, Mr Mander and Miss Williams on our upcoming Wellbeing Day.

Year levels battled through thrilling challenges, including the formidable "wall of human seaweed," where teamwork and determination were put to the test. The excitement reached a crescendo as students navigated their way through an artillery of bubbles, bringing laughter and bubbly fun to the race. And that was just the beginning! The most daring students took on a very complex obstacle course of hurdles and, showcasing their agility and perseverance.

The Fun Run was not only an opportunity for students to enjoy the great outdoors and stay active, but it also allowed our school to come together with a shared sense of purpose. We are proud to announce that, thanks to the outstanding efforts of our students, we've made significant strides toward our fundraising goal to update one of our playgrounds.

A big thank you to all the students, teachers, and parents who made this event a fantastic success! Your enthusiasm and dedication are helping to make our school an even better place for learning and play. Stay tuned for more updates on our progress and future events as we continue to make our school a vibrant and engaging place for our students.

TEACHER APPRECIATION DAY

Parent & Friends Special Morning Tea

We would like to extend our gratitude to our parent community for contributing to the special morning tea that was hosted by our Parents & Friends Committee. to acknowledge the work of the teachers and Education Support staff of Milgate Primary School. The teachers and ES staff were very touched to receive their chocolates and feast from the spectacular spread.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY SIGN

We have had the final sign installed by the school flags, and it is a special one! We contacted a past student earlier in the year and asked if she was interested in creating the artwork for our Acknowledgment of Country sign. We are so grateful that she agreed, as the artwork is perfect.

Tanise Young is a Gunnai, Waradgerie, Yorta Yorta woman and attended Milgate Primary School between 2013-2016. On behalf of the school community, we would like to thank Tanise and her mother Judith for creating this artwork for the school.

Story

For this piece, I wanted to show how Milgate is connected to land, culture and community.

The use of greens and blues in the background are there to represent the Milgate colours.

The deeper blue adds cultural markings inside the outline of a leaf to reference the connection to country.

The 7 circles symbolise the year levels from prep to year 6. It starts with the preps, the smallest circle with just yellow and white and each year they move through the year levels and grow and gain more knowledge the circles get bigger and gain more colours.

These colours connect to the big half circle on the side of the piece that represents community, family, friends, and teachers that all help the students develop and grow.

The colours in the smaller circles represent joy, positivity, and creativity.

I also wanted to recognise in the painting that Milgate is on Wurundjeri country and that the school is built on an old apple orchard historically which in a sense connects everyone to continuous growth.

ENVIRONMENTAL TEAM

Congratulations to 5NK for being this week’s trash free Tuesday winner and having 2 pieces of trash! They will receive ’Ernie the Earth’ our environmental mascot. Overall as a school we got 109 pieces of trash. Well done to everyone who has contributed to our composting already. Please remember to put your food scraps in the compost bin.

TEACHER PRESENCE

Dear Parents/Guardians

Milgate would like to support some of our teachers again this year who have chosen to register with Teacher Presence.

For those new to Milgate, Teacher Presence is an organisation that provides an alternative to the traditional end-of-year gift-giving.

It allows a teacher to nominate one of four charities supported by this organisation.

Families would then have the opportunity to donate to their teacher’s chosen charity, in place of the optional present they may have otherwise purchased.

Whilst our staff are very grateful for the gifts some families have chosen to give them historically, they’re also excited and inspired by the concept of giving to those less fortunate.

If you’re interested, we would encourage you to check the website to see if your child’s teacher has registered.

https://www.teacherpresence.org/

Please note that participation is completely voluntary, so you may or may not find your teacher’s name on the list – we just wanted to make you aware that some of our staff are choosing to be involved.

Many thanks.
