School Council Message

As we move into the second half of term four, there is a decided buzz of positivity in the air right around the school. It is lovely to see the 2024 preps enjoying their Friday morningtransition sessions and equally as wonderful to hear of the plans underway to celebrate our graduating grade 6 students in the weeks to come. It is such a special time for students as they prepare themselves for the challenges and opportunities that await them in the new year. It is also a time of ‘big feelings’ and I know parents and carers will be keen to help their children reach the finish line which is now in sight.

The much-anticipated official opening of the Main Wing was recently held, showcasing practical and innovative designs that provide our students a better learning environment and spaces. Congratulations to the entire Principal Team on their stewardship of this important project.

The number of responses received from parents, staff and students to this year’s online school survey was significant – indeed, the participation rate was the highest it has been for many years. Council was recently briefed by Marcus on both the survey data as well as our 2023 NAPLAN results.

The survey data is overwhelmingly positive and will empower council in decision-making. Importantly, we strive for continuous improvement, Council always seeks to promote and foster a supportive, inclusive and innovative culture – an environment in which our community feel motivated and can contribute. It was therefore particularly pleasing to note that one of the standout results of our survey was the sense of satisfaction of staff, particularly in relation to collegiate collaboration and trust.

Our NAPLAN results were also strong. Whilst a recent reporting change whereby results are now reported against proficiency bands as opposed to the previous numerical bands means that the 2023 results cannot be directly compared to previous years, it is clear ASPS students have again performed well, particularly in the area of writing skills, which has been a specific focus.

With the end of the year fast approaching, there are still a number of families who have yet to finalise their voluntary parent payments. As most would be aware, the school relies upon these contributions to deliver a range of programs that enrich the ASPS experience, including the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden, right through to improvement works around the grounds. Payments can be made through XUNO, alternatively, please contact Sue in the office for options.

As always, if you wish to contact me for any reason, please do not hesitate to do so.
