Arts and Design Technologies Showcase

Last  Thursday evening, we had the pleasure of celebrating all things artistic and creative.

Our Annual Arts and Design Technology showcase was a great success and I extend a big THANK YOU to all our fabulous students and staff who helped to make the event so enjoyable and memorable.

The Brigidine Centre was transformed into an Art Gallery and Performance space, enabling members of our community to come together and enjoy the many musical performances, view the fabulous artwork, watch the movie trailers and admire the creations made from metal and wood.

Our event, again, showcased student’s work, from Foundation to Year 12, and included pieces that had been designed, manufactured and created in Visual Arts, Visual Communication Design, Media, Technology Wood and Metal, Food Technology and Performing Arts.

This year, our Arts and Design Technology showcase was opened by local artist, ‘Tank’.

Tanks' brightly painted fibreglass cows, quirky murals and large-scale metal sculptures can be seen scattered around many of the shops, parks, riverside walks and public spaces around the Greater Shepparton area and beyond. His unique artwork is created using a wide variety of mediums transforming blank spaces, walls and canvasses into eclectic, eye-catching displays.

Tank’s work includes graphic design, brand development, furniture construction, sculpture and even hand-painted wallpaper.

When doing my research about Tank, I read with interest that Tank has always been attracted to art which expresses an opinion or idea to generate thought and reflection, believing the  role of an artist is to create images which express a different or alternative interpretation of life and the world.

Tank’s artwork frequently takes a critical view of social, political or cultural issues, expressed through the use of common objects displayed in unlikely or impossible situations. Throughout his career, Tank has had exhibitions in and around the Goulburn Valley, Melbourne, Sydney and Italy. Like the student’s work that was on display, Tank’s art work, public sculptures and mural projects are colourful and dynamic with each telling their own unique story.

We also had the pleasure of announcing our Principal’s Choice Awards for 2023.
