2024 School Captains

The rigorous selection process for our 2024 school captains has drawn to a close, marking the culmination of a challenging and multi-stage evaluation at Aberfeldie. This demanding journey concludes with a final interview before a large panel. I am delighted to introduce our 2024 captains, whose names will be revealed in the General News & Information section of this newsletter.

I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to every student who dedicated themselves to the application process, showcasing remarkable dedication and proudly representing both themselves and our school. The calibre of candidates this year was exceptional, a testament to the outstanding leadership potential within our student body. The selection committee faced the daunting task of choosing among an incredibly talented pool of applicants. Fortunately, we have many leadership opportunities for students to apply for, with new roles set to be created in 2024.

Some of the work of our student leaders...

At this week's school council meeting, our dedicated student leaders, the House Captains, showcased their remarkable efforts. Over the past year, they undertook a comprehensive project focusing on redefining the names of our houses to better reflect their essence. Recognising that the existing names no longer aligned with the values of sportsmanship, leadership, and representation of the Australian community, the student leaders sought to instil names embodying these qualities.

Initially considering naming the houses after prominent Australian figures in sports and society, they realised the complexity and potential challenges this approach posed. Instead, drawing inspiration from the traits they wish to champion, our House Captains explored local flora and fauna that best epitomised these characteristics. Their findings and proposals will soon be presented to the entire school community at our upcoming assembly.

This endeavour marks not just a change in names but a testament to the ongoing commitment of our student leaders in shaping a more inclusive and representative environment. It also sets the groundwork for the forthcoming group of leaders, opening the door to further explorations and innovations in leadership

Playground

Our playground is now closer than ever. With construction hopefully commencing next week, we are very excited to get to play on it before the end of the year. The temporary fencing should be going up very soon, so we will be asking families to be careful around this space, particularly whilst the work sis occurring.

Diwali

For our families who celebrated Diwali on Sunday, we hope that the festival of lights brought joy, peace, and blessings to each and every one of you. Diwali is a time for togetherness, reflection, and the celebration of new beginnings. Wishing you and your loved ones a very Happy Diwali!

Final note...

As we leap over the halfway point of term four, it becomes vitally important for us to hold the course and be supportive of those around us. It can be a complex time of the year for many, with celebrations hyping us up and uncertainty about the future becoming unsettling, not to mention the fatigue from what has been a massive year. During this period, maintaining connected and being understanding can make a significant difference. Let's offer a lending hand to each other, fostering an environment of empathy, positivity and encouragement. We are looking forward to navigating these final few weeks and finish the year on a positive note, uplifting one another as we move forward.
