Inquiry Term 4
Lots of amazing learning is happening in the learning centres; we have historians and geographical experts developing their knowledge and skills.
We want to share this learning with families on Thursday the 12th of December at 10am (straight after our Christmas Liturgy). We hope you can make it.
Reports
Semester Two reports will come home in a few weeks, below is part of Justin's letter informing parents of the continuing change with the reporting of the maths curriculum.
Student Reporting Update – Mathematics Version 2.0
I am writing to remind you about the changes to student reporting for Mathematics in Victorian government schools.
The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) recently published its revised Mathematics curriculum (Mathematics curriculum 2.0).
On your child's Semester One report, the teacher reported against the Mathematics Curriculum 2.0, achievement standard as a whole, providing a single, aggregated score. In previous years, teachers reported against three strands however, with the new curriculum we will continue to report to a single aggregated score.
As the achievement standards reported on have changed, your child received a single aggregate score in Semester One. Semester Two report progress will be shown against the single achievement standard; however, as it is an aggregated score, your child's progress in particular areas of mathematics may not be reflected in this overall score.
Please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s learning group teacher, the Learning Centre Leader, Bec Tardrew our Learning and Teaching Leader or myself if you have concerns about your child’s report or progress.
Indigital
Melbourne Zoo Showcase
On Friday the 15th of November Amanda and Hayley attended with some students from ¾ yellow students the fighting extinction school showcase. The students over the course of the year have been working with Indgital to create a minecraft world to highlight the Grassland Earless dragon and local critical endangered reptile. We all had a wander around the zoo and one of the biggest highlights of the day was seeing the grassland earless dragon in the flesh, it was so very small. The main reason for attending the zoo was to see the showcase, the students were able to see what other schools had created to highlight how we can all help protect different animals and the environment. All the students enjoyed reading a big book called Ned the earless dragon. Overall we all had a fantastic day at the zoo and can't wait to showcase our Indigital work with the school community at our learning expo later this term.

I loved going to the zoo because there was so much to do and see. My favourite part was when we saw the Earless Dragon and when we looked at all the school's work. I loved the Earless Dragon and the train rides. Everything was easy to find and really fun. Every animal looked happy. I think they were being treated amazingly. So to sum it up I really enjoyed the zoo!

On Friday the 15th of November , 7 students from ¾ Yellow went to the Melbourne Zoo with Amanda and Hayley to see a showcase based on Fighting Extinction. Overall, The best part of the zoo was seeing the Grassland Earless dragon, Australia’s most endangered reptile. It was our favourite because we had been learning all about it. Even better, we learnt more things about the Grassland Earless Dragon! This was a very fun and informative experience.

On FridayFriday the 15th of November eight of the students from 3/4 Y went to the Melbourne Zoo, there was an event called indigital, there were a bunch of other schools doing an expedition about trying to stop animal species from extinction. Some fish and turtles, homemade rocks and put them in the oceans, they put metal on top of turtle nests to protect eggs from foxes. They were even games and puzzles which were cool. After the expo we looked around the zoo and we even saw the grassland's earless dragon!
Liliana
I enjoyed going to the Melbourne zoo because there were lots of different activities as well as looking at everyones presentations because they were all very interesting in their own way. The 8 students from ¾ yellow got to see and listen to everyone's presentation which was represented in different ways! It was also fascinating to see how small the earless dragons were and that we learnt more about what they like. I really enjoyed the zoo and I hope others did too!
Amy - Going to the Melbourne Zoo was very fun going with Hayley and Amanda. My favourite part was the Elephants because they quickly became my friends at first. I named the little one Ellie, the biggest one named Elizabeth, and the third one was Eve and the fourth one was Ella because they all started with the letter “E” The Melbourne Zoo was very amazing.
