Dear Parents, Carers, and Friends of St Brendan’s,
Welcome to the final newsletter of the 2024 school year.
As we close this final chapter of this school year together, I am filled with a deep sense of satisfaction, pride and gratitude for the year that has been. The end of the school year is always a time of reflection, gratitude and appreciation. I sincerely wish all in our community a happy and joyful end to the school year.
At this time of year, we are reminded once again of the importance of our shared purpose. This shared purpose is about providing the best possible educational experience for the children in our school. As our school vision statement reminds us: Every child is known, encouraged, challenged and supported.
This year as a school community, we have strived to nurture the hearts and minds of our students, supporting them in their academic progress and individual success. We have also worked together to assist their development and preparation for life as compassionate, thoughtful, and kind individuals. At the heart of our mission is the central goal to help them grow in faith, confidence, and resilience — these are important values that will carry them and support them through every stage of their lives.
We are also blessed to have Father Shymon, our Parish Priest, leading us in faith and prayer. His gentle guidance helps us all to grow spiritually and strengthens the bond within our school community.
Our teaching and support staff continue to inspire and guide our students every day with incredible passion and dedication. Their commitment to creating a positive and nurturing learning environment is what makes St Brendan’s such a wonderful place to learn. I feel privileged to work alongside such a talented and compassionate team. I’d like to thank each and every one of them.
As always at this time of year, we say goodbye to some members of our team: Tess Haddock, Cassie Black, Meagan Greenland, Andrea Connors and Jack Taranto. We wish them every success in their new endeavours and we thank them for so generously sharing their many gifts with us all.
I’d like to offer a special mention to my colleague and friend, Mrs. Bernie Turner, who continues to provide exceptional leadership and support to all staff and students.
I would also like to acknowledge and thank the members of the Leadership Team: Bernie Turner, Emma Chapple, Justin Barry, Daniela Ruberto, Erica Hudson and Tess Haddock. Your hard work and commitment have been a gift to our school.
I must take the time to mention our brilliant administration team; Wendy Ziino and Louise Street, whose friendly, efficient and caring approach keeps our school running smoothly.
I’d also like to acknowledge the amazing members of our School Advisory Committee (SAC) for their invaluable input and dedication this year. We are fortunate to have such a committed group of parents and grandparents working with us to guide and support the direction of the school. I want to extend my thanks to Paul Bryant, Chair of the SAC (Catherine, Year 6), Trevor Gilbert (Ella, Year 5, Rylee Foundation), Dave Goble (Macie, Year 4 and Ellie, Year 1), Mel Scott (Leila, Year 6), Jess Ryan (Declan Year 3 and Kaitlyn Foundation, Jo Herberte (Zoe Year 4) and Kirby Brown (Archie Foundation). In particular, I extend my warmest thanks and sincere gratitude to Paul Bryant who leaves our SAC and school community this year.
I would like to take this opportunity to extend my heartfelt thanks to all our St Brendan’s families for the ongoing support you give to the school. Your involvement in and commitment to our school community are among the key factors that truly make St Brendan’s a special place. Whether you volunteer, attend events, or simply show support from home, we are incredibly grateful for your contributions.
A special thank you to the grandparents in our community, who continue to play such a vital role in the lives of our students. Whether it's picking up children from school, attending assemblies, or offering us a helping hand, your presence in our community is always appreciated, and we and your grandchildren are just so fortunate to have you involved.
I want to thank our students — they are the heart and soul of St Brendan’s. Their curiosity, enthusiasm, and energy inspire me every day. It is an absolute joy to work with them, and I look forward to another year of learning and growing together in 2025. I would also like to acknowledge the student leaders who have guided us through the school year. Our School Captains Amelia B and Toby B, Vice Captains Catherine B and Parker S and House Captains Poppy B, Annabelle C, Milla M, Chace G, Evie J, Eve C, Hunter D and Gemma W have played a vital role in shaping our school culture, and I have been so excited and proud to watch them lead with generosity, kindness, integrity and passion.
Finally, I want to thank you for entrusting us with the privilege of educating your children. It is an honour to be a part of their journey, and we are proud of the commitment, we as a staff, made at the commencement of 2024 to making this year one filled with joy, learning, and shared success.
I encourage you to reflect during this Advent season on the things that are important to you. Take time for quiet reflection, prayer and moments of mindfulness. I wish each and every person in our community the sacred blessings of a truly beautiful Christmas and a safe, prosperous and happy new year. The staff and I look forward to welcoming you back in 2025.
Warmest regards,
Sue
