Learning in the English Classrooms

In the English classroom, our Year 1/2 students have been diving into narrative writing. We are thrilled with the creative and imaginative stories they have crafted! Using the Story Grammar template, we have been brainstorming characters, settings, and problems to shape our narratives. The students have enjoyed writing rich character and setting descriptions and coming up with unique, engaging problems for their stories. It’s been a lot of fun watching their ideas come to life! Next, we will be moving on to poetry, and we can't wait to explore this new genre together!

In Reading, we are finishing up our assessments and are excited to share the students' progress with you soon! Alongside this, we have been exploring the skill of questioning the author to deepen understanding, and we've introduced paired fluency reading in our classrooms. The students are making fantastic strides—well done to everyone!

Learning in the Spanish Classrooms

In Literacy, our students have been solidifying their knowledge about narrative stories by creating their own. Firstly, we have been focusing on elaborating a setting by adding characters, adjectives, places, and time in Spanish. We were amazed by the deep creativity of our students. Then, we immersed ourselves in the problem/solution part of the narrative stories. Our students enjoyed the freedom to elaborate solutions for given problems and vice versa. We also set up a translator station to allow our students to let their imagination fly when writing their stories.

One of the most successful lessons took place last week, where the students had to collaboratively choose a given problem, and create a poster with all the possible solutions in Spanish. The teachers were mesmerised by the level of engagement in this particular activity.

In Maths, we have continued along the path of multiplication and division. The Builders have been designed with the aim of allowing students to solve multiplication and division problems using different strategies. When using real-life word problems in Spanish, we tend to make a circle on the floor and provide manipulatives, whiteboards, and other materials to enable students to choose the most efficient strategy in each case.
