Kindy Bilbies and Rosellas
Fun fact: did you know that eating a variety of colours from fruits and vegetables helps make you a “Super Strong Hero”.
At Kindy we have been busily learning about eating the rainbow and fuelling our bodies with healthy foods. We had lots of fun at the school garden, looking for mulberries and apricots.
We have also been busy taking care of our own garden as we wait for our cherry tomatoes and strawberries to grow.
Year 2 Echidnas and Platypus
As part of our Design and Technology project, the Year Twos explored which plants and animals can provide food and the tools, equipment and techniques used to prepare food safely and hygienically for healthy eating.
Here is a recount by Louise, Kasey and Suhavni;
On October the 31st the Year Twos made healthy sandwiches for their Year Two project. Our teacher picked 3 or 4 children to go out to help Amaya, our class helper, prepare the ingredients.
Next, we made the healthy sandwiches. They were so good! We had ingredients like chicken, tuna, bread, cucumber, egg, cheese, tomato, butter, mayonnaise, lettuce and carrot.
After this, we learnt about Indian and Asian food. We watched how rice is grown and harvested. We wrote down what some other cultures typically eat for lunch.
Finally, we took a photo of our sandwiches and ate them!
Year 3 Numbats
Year 3 students have been exploring measurement in maths through hands-on activities both inside and outside the classroom.
They have been learning how to measure weight, length, capacity and volume by using a variety of tools like scales, rulers, and measuring jugs. Inside the classroom, they measured the length of different objects, weighed everyday items, and compared volumes of liquids.
Outside, they took their learning further by measuring the dimensions of plants, playground equipment, and even estimating the weight of larger objects like rocks or bags of sand. This practical approach has helped them develop a deeper understanding of measurement concepts and how they apply in real-life situations.
Year 3 Magpies
The Year 3 students have moved onto Chance and Data. This week they have looked at chance words such as certain, unlikely, maybe, likely and impossible and made connections to events that would fall in each category.
The Year 3 students played a chance game called crossing the river where they first played using the numbers 2-13. To achieve these numbers the needed to add the two dice numbers rolled together. We discussed the probability of achieving each number with 2 dice and soon found that 7 had the higher chance of being rolled.
