Year 5 Excursion - Brownes Dairy

From Moo to You!

As part of Year 5 Design Technologies: Food and Fibre Unit, we visited Brownes Dairy. The students were engaged in hands on learning about the farm to food process involved in the dairy supply chain and the distribution of WA milk to Asia.

They learned all about the health benefits of dairy, science of dairy, food safety, animal welfare, environmental impact, sustainability and even had the opportunity to milk a real cow.

These are some of the highlights of our excursion:

“I liked how we got to try different yoghurts and guess which flavour they were. I have a new favourite flavour- banana honey.”- Maame Yaa

“I liked when we got to pat and then milk the cow. I also loved the free yoghurt.”- Lizzie

“I liked how we got to see the factory where we saw people making yoghurts and milk products. It was cool.”- Kylen

“l liked how we saw the factory and learned about what they do there. I also liked how we guessed what the flavour was of different yoghurts. No one guessed that the bubblegum flavour was actually made from grape and carrot.” – Anabelle
