The MRC will be again taking donations of textbooks to assist students who are finding it difficult to obtain all their books for next year.
All textbooks can be dropped into the MRC anytime from now to the end of the school year. To assist with recycling of stationery items, we also accept looseleaf paper, exercise books, pens, pencils etc. We are also seeking donations of the Casio Scientific calculators FX82AU Plus II, 2 Edition and the Casio Graphic CAS Class pad calculator.
If you have any questions please email anne.chowne@academy.vic.edu.au

On Thursday, 14 November we celebrated the amazing achievements of the Year 7 Readers’ Cup. In a bid to win the coveted cup, since April of this year, the Year 7 English classes have been recording all their reading as well as writing book reviews (published on our MRC webpage). The competition and enthusiasm for reading has been a joy to witness.
Results and Special Award winners:
7 Blue - Winning English class - 52,204 pages
7 Red - 41,158 pages
7 Green - 38,002 pages
A grand total of 131,364 pages… an amazing amount!
Congratulations to all the Year 7s for this mighty effort.
I would like to thank the Year 7 English teachers: Ms Orfini, Ms Slocombe and Ms Patuto for all the support and encouragement they have given to the students. Also, a big thank you to Ms Neill and Ms Salvo for all the help and work they have dedicated in helping set up the “Readers’ Cup”, their efforts are most appreciated. Finally, I would also like to thank all the parents and carers who encouraged all the reading at home.
Happy Reading!

On 6 November, ‘Earth at the Academy’, our Sustainability Group, had the exciting opportunity to visit the Melbourne Zoo, where we piloted a new Sustainability Program. This program aims to raise awareness of environmental issues and highlight the zoo’s ongoing sustainability efforts. We were guided by zoo staff member Bart, who created an interactive learning experience that showcased the zoo’s commitment to sustainability. One of the most eye-opening initiatives was learning about the link between mobile phones and gorillas through the "They Are Calling on You" campaign, which encourages people to recycle their old phones to help save gorillas in the wild. It was a fun day of seeing the animals and discussing sustainability improvements at both the zoo and our school.
Looking ahead, we’re excited to see how this program will inspire future sustainability projects. We can’t wait to see how it grows and spread similar initiatives throughout our community!
