From the Principal

 Congratulations on your First Reconciliation

On Tuesday 20 November for the very first time students from Grade 2 made their first Reconciliation at St Kevin's Church. They were well prepared and very excited to participate in this important moment of their young lives. We are so proud of each child. We congratulate our students who experienced God's loving mercy in this very special sacrament.  We pray for the Lord's blessings for each child and that their lives continue to be formed by faith, hope and love so that everything they do is illuminated by the light of Christ.

I take this opportunity to thank the parents of our children who worked in partnership with Fr Fabian and our junior teachers to prepare the children for this Sacrament. Thanks especially to Rozeta for her coordination that ensured the preparation and Sacrament was a significant moment in the lives of these children.

Farewell and Happy Retirement Andrea!!

Andrea retired from SFS in 2022 but then returned to us in Term 2, 2023 and has been with us since. Andrea has really been teaching at SFS for the past seven years with just a very short taste of retirement. However this time, it looks like this will really be a farewell from SFS as Andrea and her husband Peter move to live in WA to be close to family. We shall really miss you Andrea and are so grateful that we have enjoyed seven years working with you. You have made a wonderful contribution to the students in your care, to the school and to Catholic Education. Thank you and best wishes from all of us for the next exciting chapter of your life in the west. If you decide to move east in coming years we would love to see you again at SFS.

May the road rise to meet you

May the sun always be on your back

Until we meet again

May God hold you in the palm of his hands.

We Remember

Last week we commemorated Remembrance Day. Remembrance Day in Australia is dedicated to Australians who died as a result of war and all people who have served our country or continue to serve our country.

Remembrance Day (sometimes known informally as Poppy Day owing to the tradition of the remembrance poppy) is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth member states since the end of the First World War to remember the members of their armed forces who have died in the line of duty. The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month attained a special significance in the post-war years. It became universally associated with the remembrance of those who had died in the war.

The Flanders poppy was one of the first plants to grow on the battlefields of France and Belgium. After WWI, silk poppies were sold on Armistice Day with proceeds going to a charity for French children and to the Returned Soldiers League (RSL). For more than 100 years, the annual Poppy Appeal has supported Australian veterans and their families. Donations helps the RSL to continue to deliver life-changing support to our veterans when they need it the most.

At St Francis de Sales we gathered in front of the school for a special service. We remember and thank all members of our defense force who have given their lives for our country.

Enjoy the weekend.
