Planning 2026

We continue to plan and get organised for next year. We have been focused on the newest members of our school community. Our pre-foundation students have been having a wonderful time, attending sessions on both Monday and Tuesday afternoons, under the guidance and support of Ms Fontana and Ms Gordon.   We hope these classes will be smaller to support our students in focusing on the core literacy skills, including oral language, phonological awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. Building early numeracy skills is also essential as our students will be learning to count and work with numbers to 20, recognise patterns, compare measurements, identify shapes, describe position, and sort and represent data using simple language of chance.

Language Provision

You will recall that, following our Term 2 review, it was recommended that we conduct a community consultation process regarding language provision at WPS.  Our school council has provided strong support for this process. At a recent school council meeting, the results were shared. We are currently evaluating implementation options to ensure that, if a language change is necessary, we are well-positioned to implement a successful program.

Mental Health Awareness Month

October is Mental Health Awareness Month, providing an opportunity to raise community awareness about the importance of mental health and overall well-being. Schools are at the heart of their communities, and students are at the centre of our schools. This means Mental Health Awareness Month is a chance to celebrate the incredible work schools do to foster mental health and wellbeing.

We are fortunate to have Ms Amy Carter, our Mental Health in Primary School (MHiPS) Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader (MHWL), at our school.  Ms Carter contributes to our weekly newsletter, so please remember to check out her page. MHWLs are classroom teachers who work across the school to implement a whole-school approach to mental health and wellbeing.

Her role includes:

  • Building the capacity of school staff, in particular classroom teachers, to identify and support students with mental health concerns in the classroom.
  • Supporting the school to create clear referral pathways internally (within the school) and externally (to community services) for students identified as requiring further assessment and intervention
  • Coordinating targeted mental health support for students by working with regional staff, school wellbeing and leadership teams, teachers, parents/carers, and external agencies, and...
  • All the other fantastic things she does to check in and keep our students thriving!
