PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

The Moorabbin Primary School Community touch the land and think of the Bunurong People and surrounding Clans of the Kulin Nation who cared for the land before us.
We share our gratitude to their Elders past, present and emerging.
As we touch this land, we promise to treasure it, taking care of all its people,
animals, plants and waterways.
We at Moorabbin Primary School appreciate this land.
Dear Families and Carers of Moorabbin Primary School,
I would like to extend a warm welcome back to school for students, staff and families as a lengthy term commenced on Monday, October 6. I trust everyone had time to relax and enjoy some down time over the recent break. Congratulations to Brisbane supporters as your team dominated to win the AFL premiership and look like they might be dominant for some time to come!!
Plenty of happenings over the holidays at school, not least of which was the completion of the new Gymnasium, we are just waiting for the doors to be made secure, and we will officially receive the keys and handover TODAY!!!! Along with the usual ground’s maintenance, the installation of new shade sails outside of the senior learning centre and the commencement of the external basketball upgrade, our facilities are well and truly all coming together.
As always, plenty of highlights to look forward to this term with our Year 5-6 school camp to Waratah Bay, a few incursions and excursions across the school, our swimming program for foundation, Year 2 Graduation for our Grade 6 students, the official opening of the new Gymnasium, end of year celebrations and much, much more.
Add to the above the usual complexities of staff selection and contract renewals, determining budgets for 2026, transition and grade selection. We are sure, though, that it will be a productive and engaging term and one we are all looking forward to.
CONSIDERATIONS FOR GRADE PLACEMENTS 2026
Each year at this time our teaching staff commence the very complicated and important task of working out class placements of the students in each cohort, I am only seeking input from families with regards to the placement of students into classes for the following year (if that is necessary). We do recognise that that there might be some limited circumstances initiating a parental grade request, but please think carefully about this and if you really do feel a need to inform us of these circumstances then do let me know.
Having said that, if there are special circumstances that we need to know about, you are welcome to let me know of these. Such special circumstances might include but are not limited to health, emotional or learning matters, peer or sibling relationships or changes in the home situation. Selecting a particular teacher does not fit within the realm of special circumstances, and if your request includes that information it will be denied. Information requiring our consideration needs to be addressed to ‘The Principal’ and emailed to the office or myself eudoxia.angelides@education.vic.gov.au by Monday, November 3. Please title the email “CONFIDENTIAL – GRADE REQUEST’. Please note that emails received after this date will NOT be accepted.
At this stage, we have not assigned teachers to grade levels for next year, and this will not be completed until mid-November. There are no guarantees that teachers currently teaching at certain grade levels will be teaching there next year, as leadership needs to take into consideration a range of factors including the development of our teaching staff and teacher preferences before this allocation is completed.
I can inform our community there all year levels will continue to be “straight” grades” with no composite classes next year. With a possible total of 26 classes and 570 students for 2026. This is all dependent on current enrolments and if these increase or decrease I will update our community later on in November with confirmed numbers and classes. Thank you to families who have informed us of their change in circumstances, please let take the time to message the school office and let us know if you are no longer going to be part of our MPS community as this could potentially mean that we don’t need an extra teacher or vice versa.

STUDENT SAFETY
This is just a reminder to please be careful when travelling around the school. We know that as the weather warms up, more students will be walking or riding their bikes to and from school.
For avid readers of the newsletter, you will know that we have regularly requested parents to be respectful and kind when on the roads – particularly around drop-off and pick-up times. We continue to have reports given to us of ‘close calls’ where students have almost been hit by a vehicle, sometimes this is due to a lack of road awareness of students, but many times it is due to drivers not being careful. Of course, this is not always our families, but other members of the public who use the roads around the school. Please be careful!
HATS AT SCHOOL IN TERM 4
Even though we have not seen a lot of sun this week, students are still required to wear a school broad brimmed hat. This is to ensure we are meeting our obligations in our SunSmart Policy.
We have given everyone the first week to settle into finding their hats but as of next week if children don’t have a hat, they won’t be able to play. Please ensure that your child’s name is clearly labelled as hats become a very sought after item!!!
Hats will be required to be worn daily from 01 September 2025 until 30 April 2026. All students must wear a sun protective hat that shades the face, neck and ears for all outdoor activities.
FIRST ASSEMBLY IN THE NEW GYMNASIUM
Mr Koval and our student leaders will run the first assembly Thursday 16th October from 3.00-3.30pm, we will be holding a special assembly showcasing the physical changes of our school and it will be a great opportunity for parents to rejoin us in the afternoon as we will conduct our assemblies at this time for the remainder of Term 4.
COME AND HAVE A SNEAK PEEK AT THE NEW GYMNASIUM!
I will be opening up the Gymnasium for interested parents and friends on Monday afternoon from 3.30-4.00pm, Tuesday morning 8.45-9.00am and Tuesday afterschool 3.30-4.00pm and then as mentioned we will hold our whole school assembly on Thursday afternoon. I look forward to welcoming as many of you as possible to share in the viewing and experience of our new facility.
