Welcome to Term 4!

We hope you had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday break. Term 4 is always an exciting time of year, and there are lots of special events and celebrations ahead.

Grade 2 Sleepover

Last night we held our much-anticipated Grade 2 Sleepover and what a fantastic night it was! Students showed excellent independence skills and responsibility as they set up their sleeping mats and bags and organised themselves throughout the evening.

The night included a delicious pizza dinner, some fun outdoor 'camp-style' games, and time to relax with a movie before heading to bed. Students should feel proud of the way they managed tasks like brushing their teeth and preparing their bowls and plates for breakfast- important steps in building independence and self-management skills.

A huge thank you and well done to Katia Lumley for leading the organisation of the event, and to the staff members who stayed overnight to support the students. We would also like to extend our thanks to Baker’s Delight for their generous donation of bread for breakfast.

The fun and games continued on Friday as we had a visit from Tim Credible the Magician and an inflatables incursion! We also loved having a delicious Subway lunch.

In the Classroom

In Maths, the students have been strengthening their place value knowledge, including exploring the important role of zero in numbers. We’ve also been practising representing numbers using physical materials like MAB blocks and developing our skills in placing numbers accurately on number lines, including a very fun and interactivestring number line activity!

Our writing lessons this fortnight have focused on using descriptive language to enhance students’ storytelling. They have also been practising planning and writing stories with clear beginnings, middles, and ends. We have been drawing inspiration for this work from Indigenous texts.

Below is some of the students' work using their strong word choices

  • Weeks 3 & 4: Bring a mystery item and give 3 clues.
  • Weeks 5 & 6: Bring something that makes you happy.
  • Weeks 7 & 8: Bring something you are proud of.
  • Weeks 9 & 10: Bring something you like to wear.
  • Week 11: No Show and Tell.

Mini Beasts Excursion – Melbourne Museum

Date: Tuesday 11 November

As part of our inquiry unit on Mini Beasts, the Grade 2 students will visit Melbourne Museum. During the excursion, we’ll explore the Bugs Alive! gallery, seeking to expand our understanding of insect life and habitats. A highlight of the day will be watching Bugs 3D at the IMAX Theatre. We look forward to this exciting and fun educational experience. A reminder to complete the permission form on Compass. Each class will need two parent helpers so if you are available to assist, please email your classroom teacher.

Save the Date – Grade 2 Expo

Later this term we’ll be hosting a Grade 2 Mini Beasts Expo. This will be a wonderful celebration of the students’ learning on this topic. Families are warmly invited to attend and see the projects the students have been working on. Part of the expo will be creating a model of the mini-beast the students are studying. The students are welcome to bring in materials or items from home to help with this.

Visual Art Helpers

This term in Visual Art students will be focusing on textiles and learning basic sewing skills. If you are willing, able and have a valid Working With Children's card, Mrs Simpson  would love your help in assisting with threading needles for the children during their weekly art lesson in Weeks 4 (beginning 27th October) and 5 (beginning 3rd November). If you would like to help, please email Mrs Simpson (via Compass).
