It has been great to welcome the Year 6 students back to VPS for their final term of primary school. This term is full of many fun and exciting activities for the students. We encourage all families to continue reading the fortnightly newsletter to remain aware of all upcoming events.
Over the first fortnight of the term Year 6 students investigated the mathematical concepts of Capacity and Mass with some engaging hands-on activities. Capacity lessons involved the students conducting a number of races between teams to fill a bucket of water using containers of varying sizes. After racing to fill their buckets, the teams needed to estimate the amount of water used with an appropriate unit of measurement and then accurately determine the amount. The students also spent time back in the classroom converting their measurements between millilitres, litres, kilolitres and megalitres.

Year 6 students have been creatively expressing themselves in Writing sessions this term by working on free verse poems. Students have written poems based on a variety of topics that they are passionate about. The writing sessions have allowed students time to experiment with poetic devices such as: rhyme, repetition, onomatopoeia, figurative language and rhythm. Look below for some examples from 6GP's Charlie and Ruby:

We remind all families that payment and permission for the children to participate in the upcoming Inter-relate program closes this coming Sunday, 19th of October. Please contact your child's teacher as soon as possible if you have any queries about this. Thank you to all families that have already paid and given permission.

Please be reminded that the Year 6 Graduation Photo is taking place this coming Monday, 20th October. Children should arrive at school in time for the usual morning bell and be dressed neatly in school uniform.
Please ensure you have checked your inbox for an email from Clinton Walsh regarding this term's Year 6 bike education program and 'Bike Hike'. Children are required to bring a suitable bike and helmet to school on Friday, 31st October and for the following four Fridays leading up to the Bike Hike on Thursday, 4th December. Please see below for how to conduct a bike safety check:
Literacy: Summarising and Synthesising information texts, Literature Circle reading and conferencing and text analysis of class novel 'Sick Bay'.
Writing: Using writing traits of Ideas and Word Choice to create engaging poems.
Maths: Using algebra to describe numerical patterns and Volume.
Inquiry: Investigating the causes and impacts of two different types of natural disasters
Science: Identifying an area of interest that we would like to investigate by designing our own experiment.
Today, all of the students went to the Library and had an early preview of the amazing books, posters and knick-knacks for sale at the annual Book Fair. An email was sent out to all families with the details of how and when to purchase items from the stock available. It is attached again here for your convenience.
