Hi families,

It’s a busy and exciting term in our Grade 3/4 classrooms at Richmond West PS!

In Maths, students are strengthening their number skills by working with place value, addition and subtraction. In Reading, they are learning to think more deeply about texts by making predictions and asking thoughtful questions before, during and after reading. Our daily word study sessions are building strong spelling and vocabulary skills, helping students become more confident readers and writers. In Writing, students are crafting detailed fictional settings and learning how to write persuasive pieces with clear reasons and strong arguments. Grammar lessons are supporting this work, with a focus on building clear, strong sentences.

Our Inquiry unit, “Using Maps,” is helping students explore different types of maps, how to read them, and how maps can teach us about history. In Social and Emotional Learning, students are focusing on self-awareness - understanding their emotions, building self-esteem and learning how helping others can also help themselves.

It’s been wonderful to see students engaged, curious and ready to learn. As always, daily reading at home makes a real difference - just 20 minutes a day goes a long way!
