Welcome to 2026!
As we embark on a new academic year, I extend a warm welcome to all students, parents and staff. The year ahead promises fresh opportunities for learning, growth and achievement.
First and foremost, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to our Brigidine students for their outstanding Higher School Certificate (HSC) results. To rank number one amongst Sydney Catholic Schools is a remarkable achievement that reflects the tireless dedication of both our students and staff. As we celebrate these accomplishments, we remain committed to the collaborative spirit and pursuit of excellence that defines our school community.
Strengthening Our Literacy Culture
As we begin this year, I am excited to announce the continuation and expansion of our literacy program. Literacy is the cornerstone of academic success; it empowers students with the communication skills necessary for every facet of life. As the writer Toni Morrison once noted, “Reading is an adventure that never ends”. By fostering these skills, we are equipping our students for a future without limits.
To underscore this priority, literacy remains integrated into our assessment marking guidelines across all subjects. This ensures that clear communication is viewed not just as a standalone skill, but as an integral part of academic proficiency. Our teachers will continue to employ explicit teaching strategies and targeted interventions to help every student excel in reading, writing and critical thinking.
The Power of Handwriting
This year, we continue to prioritise cognitive engagement through handwriting. Students are expected to bring their notebooks to every class for note-taking rather than relying solely on their laptops. Research shows that writing by hand improves memory retention, grammar, and conceptual understanding. While laptops remain essential for research and collaboration, the physical act of writing remains a fundamental pillar of our learning process.
Important Pen Policy Update
Please note that for all formal assessments and exams this year, students must write in blue or black pen. Pencils and erasable pens are not permitted. Please be aware that if a student uses pencil or erasable ink, they forfeit the right to dispute any marks once the paper is returned.
Assessment Handbooks
Assessment Handbooks for all year groups are now available under the "Favourites" tab on Compass. These booklets contain vital information to ensure a fair and transparent evaluation process, with key inclusions as below:
I encourage parents and guardians to review these documents with their daughters to ensure a shared understanding of our expectations.
Clear communication is the foundation of a successful year. If you have any questions regarding these handbooks or our curriculum goals, please contact me, the relevant Head of Department or your daughter’s classroom teacher.
Thank you for your ongoing support. I look forward to an inspiring and successful year ahead!
