In March, the team will compete at the 2026 STEM Racing Australian National Finals, held at St Bede’s College, Mentone – going head-to-head with the top school teams from across Australia.

What is STEM Racing?

STEM Racing (formerly known as F1 in Schools) is a global competition where students design, manufacture and race miniature Formula 1-style cars powered by compressed air.

More than just a race, it simulates a real Formula 1 team environment by applying Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics – through, Project Management, Marketing, Graphic Design, Enterprise and Sponsorship, and Professional Presentation skills.

Teams develop industry-standard portfolios documenting their engineering development, project management processes, and marketing strategy. They also design and build a full-scale trade display booth to promote their brand at competition – just like a professional motorsport team.

Team Typhoon’s Journey So Far…

Team Typhoon formed in early 2024 at Alamanda K-9 College, and made an immediate impact at the 2024 Victorian State Finals, where they were crowned State Champions.

At that event, they also won:

  • Best Engineered Car
  • Best Manufactured Car
  • Best Team Portfolio
  • Best Graphic Design

Their success qualified them for the 2025 Australian National Finals, where they placed 6th overall and won Best Team Trade Display, narrowly missing the opportunity to represent Australia at the 2025 World Finals in Singapore.

Undeterred, the team returned stronger.

At the 2025 Victorian State Finals, Team Typhoon were once again crowned State Champions, achieving multiple major awards including:

  • Fastest Lap
  • Best Grand Prix

  • Best Engineered Car
  • Best Team Portfolio
  • Best Team Marketing
  • Best Graphic Design
  • Best Team Trade Display
  • Students’ Choice Award

These outstanding results have secured their place at the 2026 Australian National Finals this March.

What’s Next?

In March, Team Typhoon will compete against Australia’s best school teams with one clear goal… to become National Champions and qualify for the 2026 STEM Racing World Finals, planned to be held in Singapore later this year. If successful, they will represent Australia on the world stage!
