Understanding the VCE & Study Skills Workshops

Understanding the VCE and Year 10 Study Skills Workshops

On Thursday the 19th of February, students across all year levels were involved in our 2026 Workshops for Student Academic Success, including VCE specific workshops and Year 10 study skills and habits.

During the workshops, staff worked to ensure that all students developed a shared language around teaching, learning and assessment at the College, as well as empowering students to understand the specific expectations required to successfully progress through each SAC, outcome, unit and year.

In the Year 12 workshop, students received a presentation that explored study scores, the calculation of the ATAR, as well as key information to successfully meet Homestead’s academic expectations. The year 12 workshop included an alumni panel of guest speakers from the 2025 Year 12 cohort sharing their experiences and recommendations for how to aim high and achieve success. Students were lucky enough to ask questions and engage in goal setting activities in order to strive towards their potential through the school year.

Our Year 11 students took part in either the Year 11 Workshop or the VCE Access workshop for students currently completing a Unit 3 & 4 subject. In the Year 11 Workshop, students explored the purpose of the VCE, clarified key terminology and vocabulary to empower students to navigate their study designs and subjects with ease. Year 11 students discussed the value and importance of a pivotal year like year 11, which provides them with the skills and habits for continued success, as well as understanding the progression policy for a Year 11 VCE pathway and what success looks like at Homestead. VCE Access presentation blended these key skills with key information about study scores, the ATAR and success in their first Unit 3 & 4 subject completion.

Our Year 10 cohort also participated in a workshop designed to explore the academic rigour and expectations at Homestead, ensure that essential key terminology was clarified, and promote effective and recommended organisational and study habits in order to maximise success and reduce stress.

We can’t thank all year levels enough for their timeliness and exceptional behaviour and engagement during the workshops, and we hope each student left feeling more confident and capable to tackle the academic year ahead.

Copies of all workshops are available to students and families on Compass.
