Classroom Connection
The teaching team at CJC
At the beginning of this term, we worked on fractions. To better understand this fascinating topic, the students took part in a variety of educational games. These hands-on, engaging activities helped them grasp fractions more effectively while having fun and learning through manipulation. They even showed creativity by suggesting new rules for some of the games, making them more challenging and enriching.
Having fun while learning increasingly complex concepts is great!

This term we have been learning about the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and what the Aboriginals felt when their land got taken by the British, and the convicts getting sent to Australia. We had to write a short paragraph on what it would be like if we were a convict disconnecting from your family. We read a story called Beth the convict child and we had to sequence what happened in the story.

This term in year 3/4 in inquiry we have been learning about what education was like back in the 1700s, and how it has changed from then to now.
We have also been learning about a spiritual bird in an Aboriginal dreamtime story called Bunjil. Bunjil is a bird that makes different landscapes, plants, animals, laws, and even humans! Recently we have learned about the Welcome to Country and the acknowledgement of the country which goes like this: We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the traditional custodians of this land upon which we meet. We pay our respects to the elders of the past, present and future and acknowledge their spiritual connection to the land.
So overall, term 2 inquiry has been really interesting and fun.

Cyber safety for year 3 and 4s

In this term which is term two we have learned to balance our screen time and green time. Screens can ruin your mood, ruin your friendship, and ruin your mental health. If you think you are on screens too much you should go outside and have some fun for an hour or so. You could read a book or play a sport you like or you could have a playdate with your friends. Also we learned if someone is ever sending nasty messages you should take a screenshot and then block. Also if you are checking your emails and you see something you don’t know you mark it as spam. And if you see someone getting bullied in a game you tell a trusted adult and stand up for them or tell them off.
So overall cybersafety in term 2 is really fun and interesting.

Space Life - by Abigail P 3/4A
Part one
“All I’ve done is try but no one listens, all they’ve done is destroy yet every one listens."Whispered a voice,an unknown voice to all human kind.A woman grabbed me softly by the hand, her name was Siol.Siol was an adult at the age of 21,we were perfect together she was perfect. “Harry, do not let my beauty trick you,the things I’ve done are horrible and there to your kind,I just want to be a humans friend but my mother said no.” She looked upset so I led her past the universe, where I was supposed to explore.I saw my friend Saun walking past and as fast as I could ran to hide Siol. “Whats going on?”she asked “Saun,he hates any sort of rich person he’s barely my friend” I whispered “ I’m not rich I may look like a fairy tale princess.”Siol said proudly raising her gold bright staff as it glowed in the stars. “Cool staff, does it have any magical powers?”I asked “Yep”
Part two

I lay in my bed thinking about Siol , calmly and peacefully not knowing what's going on underneath the bed.Where Seun was thinking up a plan to trap anything he finds in space,an evil plan! After breakfast Sean went to go exploring when he was really following me! I went to our meeting spot and looked behind me twice, when I was done I shouted “you can come out now”.Siol slowly drifted out when Seun jumped up and put her in a net. He used his other arm to tie me to a rock and took Siol to his hideout in the ISS.
Part three
After all that action I’m left alone, all alone. And without Siol,my one love.Someone who cared for me loved me,the return of home is in two days.I guess i’m in space foreve…. Whoosh a flying figure went as quick as light! It cut the rope leaving me free.I speedily dashed through space by pushing all my strength on the rock back to the ISS(international space station) in the hideout to see saun with a phone about to show leader Stan. “Siol no” I shouted and pulled the cord and grabbed Siol as Seun fell down to earth. “You came back”she said softly “yes” I calmly whispered. What a weird two months…I wonder who the figure was?
The Beach - by Jacob B

In the beautiful beach I hear blue waves moving slowly in the glimmering sea, seagulls flying up high in the air, fish swimming in the sea, the sun shining on the whole beach. Seashells shimmering in the light, delicious coconuts nearby, sandcastles stealing the spotlight. The beach was very quiet, I was peacefully laying down on the comfy beach chairs and tanning myself in the sun and happily chilling and watching everything once at a time.

Numeracy Update (fractions)
This term in Maths we’ve been learning about fractions. Fractions have been very helpful. Fractions are a great way to learn and are very fun to learn. I’ve been loving fractions ever since we started learning about them. Adding and simplifying fractions have been my favourite activity this term.

3/4A Inquiry Update

This term in 3/4A we have been learning about the First Fleet and the stolen generation. We watched many videos and stories about this topic, including Beth the story of a convict child and much more. When we started doing work in our books we did a welcome to country poster with our own Welcome to Country, a picture of Bunjil, and the Aboriginal Flag.
On Wednesday 6 May 3/4A did a Cyber Safety incursion and afterwards we had to
Create a Cyber Safety poster in our Inquiry books, which included tips and tricks about being safe online and how to balance screen time with green time.
Thanks for reading!

Our Peer Mediator's role is to support students with minor conflict resolution and provide peer support.
They will be working across two areas:
Area 1 – oval, friendship tree, and junior/senior play equipment
Area 2 – concrete area, basketball courts, and the area near the junior building and portables
What are Peer Mediators?
They are trained students who help others resolve small conflicts through listening, respectful communication, and problem-solving.
Thank you Mr Ramano and Mr Beal for this initiative!
