 Relieving Principal's Message

Dear Parents, Carers, Students, and Staff,

New turning circle (Felton Rd West) is now open

Yesterday was a big day at Carlingford West Public School with the opening of the Felton Rd West turning circle. The turning circle will be open for morning drop off and afternoon pick up.

The procedures for this turning circle will be the same as those at the Felton Rd East turning circle

The pick-up bays are labelled (A-G) and painted in bright colours to ensure drivers can easily see their allocated drop off or pick up bay.

ALWAYS MOVE TO THE NEXT AVAILABLE BAY

We cannot stress this enough. For the turning circle to operate effectively, cars MUST move to the next available bay.

Also, this is a friendly reminder that there is no overtaking while in the turning circleCars must wait patiently for the cars in front to leave their bay before moving.

To ensure smooth and safe pick-up and drop-off, we kindly remind all parents that cars using the turning circles must display the student’s name(s) clearly on the dashboard as demonstrated in the example below.

Please make sure the letters are large enough to be easily read by our staff member with the microphone, so names can be called out quickly and efficiently.

Now that the new turning circle is in operation, there a few important changes that families MUST be aware of.

**For the safety of all students, pedestrians are not permitted to cross Felton Rd West outside the bottom school gate while cars are using the turning circle.

Instead, students are required to walk around the turning circle and exit via the opposite pedestrian gate.

** For the safety of all drivers, please use the turning circle to drop off or pick up your children.

When the turning circle is operating, please refrain from parking on the side of the street as turning around Felton Rd West will be very difficult and unsafe with oncoming traffic moving in both directions

Updated Carlingford West Public School Behaviour Expectations Matrix

The school executive has been working to update the Carlingford West Behaviour Expectations matrix to represent all the different settings across our wonderful school. The matrix clearly identifies what student behaviours are expected in the different spaces at our school.

Our behaviour expectations are categorised into three main areas including:

  • Respect everyone
  • Be responsible
  • Be safe

The overarching expectation of all Carlingford West Public School students is that they follow the Code by being respectful, responsible and safe, and by following teacher and staff directions.

Below is a screenshot of the updated expected behaviour settings matrix.

Staff are currently managing disappointing behaviours in student toilets where some students have used wet toilet paper to deface the walls and ceilings (see images below). Once the paper hardens, it becomes quite hard and difficult to remove.

Obviously, we are disappointed that a small group of students are mistreating the toilets in this manner. Class teachers have been speaking to students ensuring their behaviour in the student toilets meets the expectations listed below:

Respect everyone

-Use toilets quietly

-Respect school property

-Wait patiently for my turn

-Respect other people’s privacy

-Leave promptly

Be responsible

-Leave area tidy for the next person

-Return promptly to my class or playground

-Report any issues

Be safe

 -Wash my hands

 -Keep food and drink outside

Respecting Our Neighbours in School and at Home

We kindly remind all students to be respectful of neighbours both when travelling to and from school and in their own local communities. This means keeping noise levels down, disposing of litter responsibly, and being considerate of others' property and privacy.

Showing kindness and respect helps build positive relationships and a safe, welcoming environment for everyone.

Let’s all do our part to support a caring community wherever we live!
