Reconciliation Week

On Tuesday 26th May, our students came together to commemorate National Reconciliation Week, embracing the theme: "All In."

The assembly began with a Smoking Ceremony and was followed by a Welcome to Country by Bidjigal Elder Aunty Ruth Simms to which we announced her to be our inaugural house patron for our upcoming House Crest Initiative. Subsequently, our Principal Maria Iemma and Ambassador for Indigenous Australians Ayshia B both delivered powerful speeches talking to our school's role in creating a culturally sustainable school that supports Reconciliation. Finally, to conclude, students as part of our choir performed the The Bed's are Burning by Midnight Oil as part of the Voices for Reconciliation.

Following the assembly, we shared morning tea in the library, where Aunty Ruth spoke to her new book Muttonfish Magic in which she detailed growing up on Bidjigal land in La Perouse, gathering abalone on the rocks at Koori Cove.'
