Year 12
As the year progresses and our Year 12 students get ever closer to the HSC, students and staff gathered at the end of Term 1 for a pancake breakfast. By the time this newsletter is published, Year 12 would have also gathered with staff for the cutting of a Year 12 cake, a talk from their Student Advisers and a performance from some Year 12 Music students. Both initiatives, serve as reminders to students, that whilst they are studying and learning to the best of their ability, they are not to be consumed by the weight of the HSC. Instead, they are to take each day, one ‘bite’ at a time.
A Note on Kindness
At Beverly Hills Girls High, one of our expectations is to ‘Be Somebody who treats everyone with care, empathy and kindness’. With this in mind, each newsletter will features a snapshot of some acts of kindness that have been observed across the school since our last newsletter edition, so that our school community can better understand the kindness that exists that exists here.
This edition’s observations of kindness include:
At a recent school assembly, there was a minor technical difficulty which meant that the Australian national anthem could not be played. At this point, our School Captain, Sienna, stepped to the mic and sung our anthem without backing music. A very courageous move. But our girls didn’t let her sing alone. The entire school body, came in and sang, with one voice, a sign of how much we support one another at BHGHS.
- One Year 7 student was experiencing some difficulties and was a little sad because of these. A Year 9 student and a Year 11 student came across this student and were supportive and kind. Both older students collected the Year 7 student at Recess and at lunch as a means of checking in with her and making sure she was okay and she knew she was valued. Both senior students, also took the Year 7 student to get some teacher support – evidence of the kindness that exists at BHGHS.
- At the recent Athletics Carnival, students from all years could be seen cheering on their peers, encouraging them to be the best version of themselves and giving students the confidence to run just that little bit faster, throw that discuss that little bit further and/or jump that little bit higher.
A Note on Uniform
Uniform is worn across NSW public schools. Some of the benefits of school uniform are:
- promotes equality, cohesion and a sense of belonging across the school community.
- Complies with health and safety protocols making it possible for students to engage safely in practical classes
- promotes school pride
- allows for transition into professional/work settings where uniform is required.
As the weather gets colder, this is a reminder to our students to ensure they are complying with the Beverly Hills Girls High School uniform policy. Notes for non-compliance with uniform are no longer accepted and consequences for not wearing school uniform apply. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for ensuring their uniform is correct. School puffer jackets have been restocked and are available now from our uniform shop and students are also encouraged to layer by wearing white singlets and or white long sleeve t-shirts/spencers under the school blouse for added warmth.
