Year 1 and 2 Reading Camp Out

Our Year 1 and 2 learners recently enjoyed a Reading Camp Out to launch our learning about Australian animals. Classrooms were transformed into cosy campsites, with tables turned into “tents” using table-cloths and a campfire glowing in the middle of the room. As learners crawled into their tents in pairs, the rooms filled with excitement, chatter and a sense of adventure.
Inside their tents, students explored a range of non-fiction books about Australian animals. They shared discoveries with partners, compared favourite animals and eagerly swapped texts to find out more. Our camp out setting made reading feel special and fun, and there was a real buzz as learners “camped out” together and dived into books.
All learners had a fantastic time and left the Reading Camp Out full of new facts and questions. We are now using the information we’ve gathered to help with writing our own information reports about our chosen Australian animal. We are looking forward to sharing what we have learned about Australian animals at the end of term 2.
