Gr 2

Grade Twos have been learning how to use the suffix –f’ul.’  They know that when

–ful is added to the end of a base word, it tells us that the base word is ‘full of’ something.  Eg. Joyful - full of joy, meaningful – something that is full of meaning. They know that they suffix ‘ful’ is only spelt with one letter ‘L.’ The Grade Twos can also identify the base word and the prefix or suffix (or both!) of a word.  The tricky words they have been learning are: across, mother, brother and lose.  Grade Twos will begin revising ‘r-controlled’ vowels this week.  As part of their grammar lessons, they have been learning about adjectives and can identify some adjectives in sentences.  They know that adjectives describe nouns and tell us more about the noun.  Some Grade Twos have been revising the /ew/ /ue/ sound.  Grade Twos are finishing up their study of the book, “Counting Colour.”  They have written sentences using our key vocab from the book: occasionally, pesky and scanning.

In Mathematics, Grade Prep children have been learning how to add two numbers to make ten. They are making ten from two smaller parts.  They are using tens frames and play doh to help them explore the number ten and the various ways numbers can be added to make ten.

Gr 1

In their Mathematics, Grade One children are partitioning numbers to 20 into tens and ones and writing number bonds for addition and subtraction problems.  This week they will do some problem solving and complete an assessment on the topic of addition and subtraction.

Gr 2

In Mathematics, some of the Grade Two children have been learning how to add and subtract two-digit numbers with regrouping.  Other children are adding one-digit numbers to two-digit numbers with base-10 blocks and numbers lines, without bridging to 10.

Gr 3 and 4
