Year 1/2 News

Excursion - Melbourne Museum
To launch our Unit of Inquiry, Where We Are in Place and Time, the Year 1 and 2 students visited the Melbourne Museum for a day of exploration and discovery.
Students began by participating in the My Grandmother’s Storybox program, where they explored toys and objects from different eras of Melbourne’s history. Through hands-on investigations and storytelling, students compared how children lived and played in the past with life today.
We then visited the Melbourne Story exhibition, where students observed a range of historical objects and artefacts, discussing how people, technology and lifestyles have changed over time.
The Year 2 students also explored the First Peoples exhibition within the Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre. Here, they learned about Indigenous artefacts and listened to stories that highlighted the rich cultures, traditions and histories of Aboriginal peoples. Students developed a deeper understanding of how artefacts can help preserve and share important cultural knowledge across generations.
Meanwhile, the Year 1 students enjoyed exploring several additional exhibitions, including Our Wondrous Planet, the Triceratops exhibition and the beautiful Forest Gallery. These experiences sparked curiosity and excitement as students engaged with the natural world and prehistoric life.
It was a wonderful day of learning that helped students make meaningful connections to our inquiry into history, storytelling and how people’s lives change over time.
importantly, have lots of fun while developing their skills.
Volleyball
The Year 1s and 2s have been enthusiastically participating in volleyball clinics this term, building their confidence and teamwork skills through a range of fun and engaging activities. They have been learning and practising important volleyball techniques such as digs and sets, while also improving their coordination and communication on the court. It has been wonderful to see the students encourage one another, show great sportsmanship, and most importantly, have lots of fun while developing their skills.
