FARM

Sheep

A busy and productive week for the sheep section, with pastures now seeded and well on their way to establishing for the season ahead. Students and staff spent considerable time rock-picking across paddocks to improve both safety and pasture productivity. Seeding for fodder conservation later in the year is setting the farm up well for future feed supplies.

Horticulture

Mother’s Day flower sales were a fantastic success, with many beautiful arrangements prepared by students. If you missed out on purchasing a bunch, don’t worry, more flowers will be available for sale at Open Day. Be sure to visit the Horticulture section and see Mr Olde and Mr Lawrence to grab a fresh bunch.

Work is also underway to prepare vegetables for preservation and later consumption, giving students valuable hands-on experience in seasonal production and food preservation techniques.

Beef

Calf tagging has now been completed, providing Year 12 students with valuable practical experience in animal handling and livestock management. Students requiring additional experience had the opportunity to further develop their skills throughout the process. Seeding activities for fodder conservation are also drawing to a close, as preparations continue for feed production later in the year.

Dairy

The Dairy section continues to run smoothly, with the regular program operating steadily and efficiently. Students remain actively involved in daily routines and continue to build their practical skills in dairy operations and animal care.

Pigs

The pigs have shown excellent growth again this week, reaching an impressive average weight of 83 kg. All animals are progressing extremely well. Some pigs will soon be heading to the College Butcher Shop, where Bob the Butcher, alongside students, will continue the next stage of their learning. This provides students with valuable insight into meat processing and paddock-to-plate education.

Poultry

The chickens continue to thrive and are supplying the kitchen with a steady flow of fresh eggs. Automatic coop doors have now been reinstalled and are working effectively, allowing the chickens reliable outdoor access each day. The chicken yard is greening up nicely, providing excellent grazing and scratching areas for the flock to enjoy.
