Humanities
In our Term 3 inquiry unit, “My Community”, students will identify what ‘safety’ means to them and determine the feelings involved in familiar safe and unsafe situations. They will explain actions that they and others can take to help keep them safe in familiar environments. Through a series of community helper visits, children will identify members of their community that help them stay safe.
Key Questions the students will explore are:
- What is safety?
- What does it feel like to feel safe and unsafe?
- How do I stay safe in the community?
- Who can help me to stay safe in the community?
READING AT HOME:
Thank you to all our families who have been supporting regular home reading with the readers. Teachers will organise the change of books weekly. Please remember each teacher may have one day where they may choose to keep the Home Reading Log/books overnight to read the comments, sign the Home Reading Log and exchange books. We ask that families prioritise reading the take home readers and ensure these are recorded four times each week in the Yellow Reading Log so teachers can confirm regular reading of these texts is occurring. We encourage smooth reading of words as students become more confident (less sound decoding), as well as continuing to track under the words with their finger.
Please encourage these behaviours throughout the week when you read at home with your child.
