IN THE CLASSROOM

The first few weeks back in the classroom from the holidays were buzzing with stories of trips to the beach, cruise adventures, lazy afternoons and other fun family activities.
To kick off writing each year students complete a Recount Write. While it might seem like a simple exercise, recount writing is a fundamental building block for strong communication. It encourages students to organize their thoughts chronologically, use descriptive language, and transition from spoken storytelling to structured writing.
In the primary classroom students responded to the stimulus “My first day….” Mr. Paton modelled some examples of “My first day playing football”, which highlighted the key aspects of recount writing; the orientation, sequence of events and a personal reflection.
Students then completed their recounts independently, including first day topics such as; the new school year, new siblings, first day of a cruise and playing a new sport.
There were so many great examples to choose from that would not fit into the newsletter, instead some brave students have recorded their writing for you to enjoy.
