Leadership Update at SGPS
Acting Principal - Jarod Bacon
Assistant Principal - Mick Georgiadis
Dear parents and carers,
I have thoroughly enjoyed my first week as Acting Principal of South Geelong Primary

School. I have been busy learning as many names as possible and witnessing all the great things happening in classrooms, it really is a great school.
It will take me some time, but I will do my best over the coming weeks to learn the names of every student and families. Please do not hesitate to say hello and introduce yourself at pick up or drop off time.
I look forward to working with everyone throughout the semester.
Easter Raffle Reminder
A reminder that Easter raffle tickets have been sent home with students. If you are able to donate any Easter treats (chocolate eggs, bunnies, gift bags, baskets or similar), it would be greatly appreciated as we put together the raffle prizes.
Donations should be returned to the office by Friday 27 March. Additional raffle tickets are available from the office if you would like more.
The raffle will be drawn at the final assembly of Term 1 on Thursday 2 April. As this is the last day of term, students will need to be at school to claim their prize if their ticket is drawn.
Kind regards,
Jarod Bacon
Acting Principal
NAPLAN Update
This week our Grade 3 and 5 students have begun their NAPLAN assessments. We have now successfully completed both the Writing and Reading tests. Our Grade 5s experienced the nationwide online interruption on Wednesday; however, the affected assessment has already been rescheduled and completed within the testing window.
Next week, students will continue with the remaining assessments:
- Monday 16 March – Language Conventions
- Wednesday 18 March – Numeracy
Thank you to our teachers and support staff for ensuring a calm and positive testing environment and well done to all our students for approaching NAPLAN with confidence and focus.
Harmony Day – Friday 20 March
Next Friday we celebrate Harmony Day, part of Harmony Week, a national celebration that recognises and values Australia’s cultural diversity. Harmony Week is about inclusiveness, respect, and a sense of belonging for everyone—the message is simple: everyone belongs.
In Australia:
- Over half of residents are born overseas or have a parent who was
- More than 7.6 million migrants have arrived since 1945
- Over 300 ancestries are represented across the country
- More than 150 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages are spoken
Harmony Week encourages us to reflect on how our differences make Australia a vibrant and unique place to live.
Students will take part in a range of fun and meaningful Harmony Day activities next Friday as we celebrate the diversity within our school community.
Kind Regards,
Mick Georgiadis
Assistant Principal
