Students have completed ‘get to know you, get to know me, get to know Product Design' where we learn about each other and what to expect in Product Design.
We did a lesson about Safety and we looked at what Wantirna College has done to keep everyone safe; such as our ventilation systems to remove dust, specifically chosen machines to keep noise quiet, staff checking regularly for safe behaviour, and all students filling in a ‘Safe work procedure form’.
Our next lesson was a tools investigation where teachers introduce all new tools that are different from Year 7 Product Design and how to use them, then all students had a go while teachers watched to ensure tools were used safely and correctly.

To kick off a great semester, we have done a 'get to know you, get to know your teacher and get to know Integrated Systems Engineering' where we learned a little about each other which helps create a trusting, warm, and welcoming environment in the classroom.
We then investigated forces and types of energy. Next, we investigated cams and linked the theory to the real world as we engineer the measurements and clearances our cam lobes need to fit in the housing with the cam follower.

We engineered adjustments to ensure the cam shaft fits inside the housing and where the handle will go on our prototypes. We are almost finished the build and looking at customising for our end user. Brilliant work Engineers!!

we are learning all about surface decoration and product personalisation. The fashion students have demonstrated; Applique (fabric on fabric), tie dying, sequinning and beading.Next week, we will be looking at silk screen printing and cyanotype (exposing chemicals to direct sunlight to create a negative image). The 9/10s are learning all these skills to them apply to a bag that will reflect them and all their creativity.

Whilst many people would know that we prepare many recipes in Food Studies, maybe you didn’t know that as part of the curriculum at every year level, we undertake sensory analysis!

This involves assessing ingredients and food products based on their sensory appeal: appearance, aroma, taste and texture. This week we completed comparative testing of three types of Tim-Tams and plotted our findings on a star diagram so that we could visually see how the Tim- Tams rated against different variables and each other.

Well, the results are in, our Year 9/10 Foods around the World class rated White Chocolate Tim-Tams the lowest, Dark Chocolate Mint came in middle of the range but Chewy Caramel Tim-Tam was the most favoured biscuit across all of the variables!!
