Swimming Carnival 2025

A Day of Spirit and Splash 🏊‍♂️

The annual St Anthony’s Swimming Carnival was once again a highlight of the school calendar, bringing together students, staff, and families for a day filled with energy, competition, and community spirit. Held under clear skies and with the pool sparkling in the summer sun, the carnival showcased not only the athletic talents of our students but also their courage, determination, and willingness to challenge themselves.

Competitive Events

From the very first race, the atmosphere was electric. The competitive events set the tone for the day, with swimmers diving into the water for the 100‑metre races. These longer events demanded stamina, technique, and focus, and it was inspiring to see so many students rise to the challenge. For many, this was their first time competing over such a distance, and the determination on their faces as they pushed through each lap was a testament to their resilience. The cheers from classmates and families echoed across the pool, urging every swimmer to give their best.

The 50‑metre races followed, offering a balance of speed and endurance. These events were fiercely contested, with students powering down the lanes in bursts of energy. The shorter distance meant that every stroke counted, and the finishes were often nail‑bitingly close. It was wonderful to see students of all abilities stepping up to compete, showing that the carnival was not just about winning but about participation, effort, and celebrating personal achievements.

Equally important were the non‑competitive 25‑metre events, which gave younger swimmers and those still developing confidence in the water a chance to shine. These races were filled with smiles, laughter, and encouragement. For many children, simply reaching the end of the pool was a triumph, and the applause they received was every bit as enthusiastic as for the longer races. The carnival truly embodied the spirit of inclusion, ensuring that every child had the opportunity to be part of the day.

Junior Highlights

One of the most heart‑warming moments came with the Kindergarten, Year 1, and Year 2 swimming display. These youngest members of our school community took to the water with excitement and pride, demonstrating the skills they have been learning in their swimming lessons. Their confidence and joy were infectious, and the crowd responded with cheers and encouragement. The highlight of this segment was undoubtedly the pool noodle fun race, which saw children paddling, splashing, and giggling their way across the pool. Parents joined in the fun, hopping into the water to support their children, and the sight of families working together created a wonderful sense of unity. It was a reminder that the carnival is not just about competition but about celebrating the joy of swimming and the bonds within our community.

House Spirit

The excitement continued with the House Relay races, always a favourite among students and spectators alike. Teams representing each house lined up, ready to give their all for the glory of their colours. The relays brought out the competitive spirit, with swimmers pushing themselves to the limit to secure points for their house. The atmosphere was electric, with chants and cheers ringing out as each swimmer surged through the water. These races highlighted teamwork, determination, and the pride students feel in representing their house.

Adding an extra layer of fun to the day was the much‑anticipated Parents vs Year 6 race. This event never fails to entertain, and this year was no exception. Parents bravely took to the water, determined to show that they could still keep up with the younger generation. Year 6 students, equally determined to defend their honour, raced with energy and enthusiasm. The result was a thrilling contest that had the crowd roaring with laughter and support. Regardless of who touched the wall first, the race was a celebration of community spirit and the joy of shared experiences.

Celebrating Success

At the end of the day, the points were tallied, and the House Cup was awarded to Padua. Congratulations to all Padua swimmers for their outstanding effort and teamwork. Their victory was well deserved, but it is important to acknowledge that every house contributed to the success of the carnival. The competition was close, and the pride shown by all houses was evident throughout the day.

Thank You 💙

None of this would have been possible without the incredible support of our parent helpers. From timekeeping and marshalling to cheering and assisting in the water, parents played a vital role in ensuring the smooth running of the carnival. Their generosity with time and energy is deeply appreciated, and their involvement made the day even more special.

A heartfelt thank you must also go to the staff of St Anthony’s, who worked tirelessly to organise, supervise, and encourage students throughout the event. Their dedication to creating opportunities for students to shine is at the heart of everything we do, and the carnival was a shining example of their commitment.

Finally, and most importantly, well done to all the children. Whether they swam competitively, joined in the fun races, or cheered from the side-lines, every student contributed to the success of the day. The courage shown by those who challenged themselves to enter multiple races, the joy of the younger students in their displays, and the determination of the older students in their relays all combined to make the carnival a memorable celebration of effort, achievement, and community.

The St Anthony’s Swimming Carnival was more than just a sporting event; it was a celebration of participation, resilience, and togetherness. It reminded us all that success is not only measured in medals or points but in the smiles, laughter, and pride of our students. Congratulations once again to Padua for winning the House Cup, and thank you to everyone who contributed to making the day such a triumph.

Final Word

After two wonderful years, I am stepping down from my role as Teacher in Charge of Sport at St Anthony’s. It has been an absolute privilege to lead our sporting program and I have truly enjoyed every moment. From the excitement of our Carnivals, Gala Days, and Championship events at Olympic Park, to the energy of working alongside our dedicated coaches in Gymnastics, Soccer, Martial Arts, Basketball, Netball, Rugby League, and Oztag, the experience has been both rewarding and inspiring. Watching our students challenge themselves, grow in confidence, and celebrate their achievements has been the highlight of my time in this role.

None of this would have been possible without the incredible support of our parent volunteers, who generously gave their time to assist at events and cheer on our children, and the staff who worked tirelessly to ensure every day ran smoothly. I am deeply grateful for the encouragement and teamwork that has surrounded me throughout this journey. Thank you to everyone who has helped make Sport at St Anthony’s such a vibrant and joyful part of school life. I look forward to continuing to support our students in new ways as they strive for excellence both on and off the field.
