Week 9, Term 4
We are maintaining regular routines at school as much as possible as we approach the end of the year. After our sensational swimming experience we understand that children may be tired and less resilient than usual, however maintaining a predictable routines promotes a feeling of security which is important for all students.

Our spelling focus for this week is ‘ti, ci, si’ decoding and spelling rules. Students will be looking at geographical features of South America through non-fiction texts. Students will be working on narrative writing and consolidating their understanding of the use of apostrophes for possession.
To support your child’s learning please continue to encourage them to independently read for at least 20 minutes each night. You may like to read and view texts or share interesting facts that relate to the South American country that they are focusing on in CBL.
We will be working on probability through hands on activities. Students will conduct repeated chance experiments identifying and describing possible outcomes and recording results. They will continue to identify the likelihood of situations occurring using probability vocabulary such as likely, unlikely, certain and impossible. In algebra, students will be experimenting with function machines identifying rules, creating their own and solving those of their peers.
To support your child’s learning at home please continue to encourage them to utilise Mathletics to continuously practice their addition, subtraction, multiplication and division skills. In addition, please discuss probability in likelihood of events and in games played as a family.
Students are continuing their exploration of their South American country and are working hard at creating thoughtful slides to demonstrate their understanding of the research they are gathering in their own words.
To support your child’s learning at home please encourage your child to discuss their research and with you and ask them questions to encourage their curiosity and prompt further research.
