Grade 5 - Public Speaking Workshop

Grade 5 - Public Speaking Workshop

Belmont High School recently hosted a Public Speaking Workshop for aspiring leaders from Roslyn, Belmont and Montpellier Primary Schools. The program linked the passionate primary school students with Belmont High teachers and junior leaders to work on their upcoming grade 6 captains’ speeches.

Throughout the workshop students engaged in a session led by Emma Edwards, exploring the foundations of an effective speech, how to ‘hook’ their audience, structuring a clear message, using persuasive language, and presenting with confidence and presence. Belmont High School student leaders played a key supporting role across the day, helping the younger students through the writing process, facilitating impromptu speeches and giving constructive feedback. A huge thank you to these student leaders and the teachers who gave up their time to help with the event.

The day provided students with a safe and supportive environment to practise their speeches, gain confidence and develop their own leadership voice. The Grade 5 Public Speaking Workshop was a wonderful celebration of partnership with Belmont High School and the primary schools in our community. The future is looking bright!
