Year 8 Students Explore the Heart and Hear an Inspiring Story

Our Year 8 students recently took part in a hands-on heart dissection, giving them an up-close look at the structure and function of the heart as part of their study of the circulatory system. Students also had the privilege of hearing from a guest speaker, Nan C, our student Keisha Hall’s grandmother, who shared her personal experience of living with leukaemia. Her story offered valuable insight into how blood disorders affect the body and inspired thoughtful discussion among the class.

Ingenious Creations: Year 8 Accelerated Science Students Build Rube Goldberg Machines

Throughout Term 4, our Year 8 Accelerated Science students have been diligently designing and constructing their own Rube Goldberg machines. Their challenge was to engineer a deliberately complex device that incorporated a variety of simple machines and materials to showcase energy transformations while completing a simple final task.

Working collaboratively in groups, students set out to achieve goals such as closing a sandwich press, dispensing soap, dropping a marshmallow into hot chocolate, adding Mentos to a cola bottle, and triggering a baking soda–vinegar reaction.

It was fantastic to see students demonstrate creativity, teamwork, and persistence as their inventions evolved. In reflecting on the process, many recognised the value of early and frequent testing, as well as the importance of patience and clear communication in producing a successful final outcome.

Well done to everyone involved!

Year 7 & 8 End-of-Year Celebration: A Night to Remember

The Year 7 and 8 school year finished with a bang at our End-of-Year Celebrations last Wednesday. DJ Marty set the tone for the evening with an energetic mix of dance tracks that kept the dance floor buzzing. Spirits were high, with plenty of prizes up for grabs.

Year 10 Students Inspired by Community Professionals

Recently, our Year 10 students had the valuable opportunity to hear from two respected professionals from our local community: Mr Grant Muir, Managing Director of Commercial Fire Group, and Mr Daniel Andrews, Agronomist at Nutrien.

Both speakers generously shared their personal journeys from school into their current careers, highlighting that pathways are not always linear and that success often comes from persistence, adaptability, and a willingness to learn. Students gained insight into how early decisions, combined with ongoing effort and openness to opportunity, can shape future careers.

A strong emphasis was placed on the importance of work ethic, seizing opportunities, and the value of education in supporting lifelong learning. Mr Muir and Mr Andrews reinforced that education does not end with school but rather provides the foundation for continually developing skills and knowledge throughout life.

This session marks the first of many planned opportunities for our Stage 5 cohorts to hear from local professionals across a range of industries. These experiences are designed to broaden students’ horizons, expose them to the many possibilities available beyond school, and align with our ongoing focus on career education and informed pathway planning.

We thank Mr Muir and Mr Andrews for taking the time to share their experiences and inspire our Year 10 students.

Celebrating Student Achievement: Congratulations, Cara!

We are delighted to announce that Class of 2025 student, Cara Haley, has received an offer to study the Bachelor of Fine Arts (Costume) at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in 2026. NIDA, based in Sydney, is Australia’s leading centre for performing arts education and training, renowned for producing highly skilled and industry-ready graduates.

Cara has made many creative contributions during her time at Moama Anglican Grammar, most recently excelling in both the HSC Visual Arts and Industrial Technology (Multimedia) courses. Her dedication, artistic vision and hands-on skill have been evident across countless projects and performances.

The BFA (Costume) program is an immersive, practice-led course that equips students with advanced skills in costume cutting, construction, fabric dyeing, art finishing, tailoring, leatherwork, headwear, and more. With access to NIDA’s specialist workshops and guidance from globally recognised tutors, students gain the experience needed to thrive in theatre, film, opera, digital media and live performance industries.

In their final year, students step into leadership roles as costume supervisors for full-scale productions and complete an industry placement with a major theatre company, opera company, or film and television studio.

This is a remarkable achievement, and we are incredibly proud of Cara’s hard work and passion for the creative arts.
