Primary School

As we wrap up the 2025 school year, I am proud to share the final primary section of this newsletter. The past few weeks have been filled with exciting events, activities, and programs that our students have thoroughly enjoyed. These opportunities would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of our Primary staff. Organising such events takes considerable planning and effort, and I deeply appreciate the staff’s commitment to always putting our students first. A heartfelt thank you also goes to our Primary Office team for their invaluable support in preparing for these occasions. Finally, thank you to our families for your ongoing support and partnership throughout the year. It truly makes a difference in helping our students thrive.

We were thrilled to welcome both our current and new students to the Primary Transition Day on Tuesday, 2 December. With some nerves and excitement, students stepped confidently into their 2026 classes alongside their peers and future classroom teachers. This important day plays a key role in preparing for the upcoming academic year, and our staff worked hard to create an enjoyable and informative experience filled with engaging ‘getting to know you’ activities.

Year 6 Graduation

On Thursday, 4 December, our Year 6 students celebrated their Graduation Dinner at the Rich River Golf Club. It was a truly memorable evening for students and their families. Guests enjoyed a delicious two-course meal before moving into the formalities, which included inspiring addresses from our four Primary Student Leaders and the Graduation Presentations. The Kinder-to-Year-6 comparison photo slideshow had everyone reminiscing and smiling. A highlight of the night was the students’ heartfelt performance of Bruno Mars’ Count on Me, which perfectly captured the spirit of friendship and support. To finish the evening on a high, DJ Martin from Party Inc had everyone up and dancing, creating a fantastic atmosphere. A huge thank you to our dedicated staff for making this event so special. Congratulations to our Year 6 students on completing their Primary School journey. We are incredibly proud of all they have achieved!

Kindergarten Police Visit

On Friday, 21 November, our Kindergarten students and teachers were on their best behaviour as they welcomed Leading Senior Constable Shane Roberts to our school. As part of their Child Protection unit, Keeping Ourselves Safe, students learned about identifying trusted adults, strategies for staying safe in public, and the important roles and responsibilities of our local police officers in Echuca and Moama. We are very thankful to all the amazing police officers who work hard every day to educate and keep our community safe.

Year 5 Celebration Day

On Tuesday 25 November, the Year 5 students attended their Celebration Day activities at Gunbower Estate and the Moama Bowling Club. A bus full of excited Year 5 students, eagerly anticipating the day ahead, travelled to Gunbower Estate to begin the morning activities. At Gunbower Estate, students participated in a series of engaging rotations, including a guided tour of the historic homestead and hands-on activities designed to help them connect with the natural surroundings of the property.

After a busy morning, the group travelled to the Moama Bowling Club, where they enjoyed a session of barefoot bowls under the expert guidance of Moama Bowling Club employees. The session began with learning the basics of lawn bowls before progressing to friendly competitive challenges between teams. It was wonderful to see the students engaging fully and encouraging one another.

Following the session, students enjoyed a special treat at Frinkle, filling up on ice cream and lollies.

We thank Dean at Gunbower Estate for welcoming us so warmly and the staff at Moama Bowling Club for providing such a fantastic experience for the students.

They were walking around to see if people were being silly and went to sleep.’

Primary Assembly

On Friday, 28 November, the Primary School community connected at the final Primary Assembly for the year. I would like to congratulate Alby Bull and Holly Pritchard, our 2025 Co-Curricular Captains, for confidently running the Assembly. We enjoyed some lovely performances from Hannah McCleary, who sang and played on the piano the song ‘Budapest’, by George Ezra and William Colliver, who played ‘Morning’ by the famous Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg on the piano. The final performance was by the Year 6.2 Rock Band, made up of Lily Wildes, Meadow Deller, Nate Michael, Cameron Arms, Georgia McIntosh, Emily Parsons, and William Eacott, who played ‘Levitating’ by Dua Lipa.

Alby and Holly encouraged students to support this year’s Christmas Hamper drive, an initiative through Anglicare that helps people in need of support in our own community. The Year 3 students shared some amazing work about angles, including the city skyline artworks they created to show different types of angles. Finally, we turned up the music and waved off our Year 6 students as they left their final Primary Assembly.

Stage 1 Assembly

The final Stage 1 Assembly for 2025 was proudly hosted by students in Year 2B on Wednesday, 3 December, who led the event with confidence and enthusiasm. Students shared their beautifully crafted Cinquain poems, using alliteration, personification and prepositional phrases, demonstrating their growing creativity and skill as young writers. Their expressive delivery and thoughtful word choices reflected the care and effort they have put into their poetry this term.

Miss Briggs also presented a number of special awards, recognising outstanding achievements across Stage 1. These included ICAS Academic Competition certificates and the Year 2 age Athletics Champion medals, awarded to Ingela Kimberland for the girls and Henry Pryde for the boys. Congratulations were also extended to the final Stage 1 Superstars for 2025.

Primary Christmas Service

On Wednesday, December 3, our Primary school students and staff came together for the Primary Christmas Chapel. The theme for this year’s service was how we can experience true joy, not just during the festive season, but throughout the entire year.

Our focus centred on the journey of the wise men who diligently followed a guiding star to find a newborn king.

We reflected on the passage from Matthew 2:9–10:“…behold, the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came and stood over where the young Child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.” We were inspired by wonderful performances from the junior dance group and the junior singers, adding a vibrant energy to the service. The event was capably led by our Junior School Captains. It was wonderful to see the entire Primary school community united, celebrating Christmas through the retelling of the Christmas Story, singing Christmas carols together, and appreciating the wonderful performances that showcased our students' gifts.

May the love of God, demonstrated through the birth of Jesus Christ at Christmas, fill your hearts and homes with lasting joy throughout the festive season and into the new year. We also thank Clare O'Neill and her mother, Linda O'Neill, for donating the beautiful nativity set to the school.

Year 6 Celebration Day

On Friday, 5 December, the Year 6 students celebrated the end of their final year of Primary School with a fantastic day out. They headed to The Zone in Bendigo, where they took part in an intense boys-vs-girls laser tag battle, which was taken very seriously by all involved! They then continued the fun with a round of mini golf, also at The Zone. After the activities, the group headed to the Bendigo Botanic Gardens for a relaxing lunch before making their way home. It was a wonderful way to spend their very last Friday as primary students and a memorable way to wrap up the year.
