Class News from Year 3/4S

Year 3/4S has had a marvellous start to the year. We have welcomed two new classmates and they are making lots of new friends which is lovely to see. We are enjoying having both Mrs Spencer and Mr Wheatcroft as our teachers.

We began the year with Positive Pilgrim Communities. Some of our self portraits are below and will be displayed in our class, along with our family photo to create a sense of Belonging

To begin with, Mrs Spencer and Mr Harris helped us mark out where our facial features should go. They then helped us draw common shapes of heads, eyes, noses and mouths. It was a bit funny having to ask our friends which shape our head matches best with.

Next, we added colour. Afterwards, we cut out our self-portraits, made our clothes from wallpaper samples and glued them onto a coloured background.

Mr Wheatcroft has been working with us about identifying the Zones of Regulation, along with revising strategies for helping us to self-regulate. We have learnt about having a Growth Mindset and the Learning Pit.

We looked at how we model the school values and what they mean to us through the Positive Pilgrim Communities program. In these lessons, we set goals by writing to our future selves. We are going to bury them in a time capsule and when we open them at the end of the year we will see if we achieved our goals. Mrs Spencer is also helping us set learning goals, which will be displayed on Seesaw so our parents can encourage us to achieve them.

We look forward to sharing more of our work in the future.

Premier's Reading Challenge

Mrs Spencer is super excited to share with you, the Premier's Reading Challenge has commenced for 2024.

Shortly you will see some posters promoting the Premier's Reading Challenge around the school and teachers will provide students with a recording sheet. Some teachers may prefer to have the students leave the recording sheets at school, so the books read during school time can be recorded. If you wish to also have a recording sheet at home, please ask, or just make a note of the books read and your child can record them when they get to school.

It’s another fabulous year to read, so check out our Campus Library, your local Council Library, your own bookshelves, or even a Street Library for something that captures your imagination.

You have plenty of time to record your reading, from now until the middle of Term 3.

Please do not hesitate to contact your class teacher or myself if you have any queries.

Oliphant Science Awards 2024

Registrations are now open for the 2024 Oliphant Science Awards! Mr Harris will be coordinating the program this year. Students have already been asked to consider nominating, and Mr Harris will be collecting the names of interested students from across the school and sending home the registration forms and information about this event to families in the next couple of weeks.

Please read and discuss this with your child to ensure you are all comfortable with what is involved and how to ask for support along the way.

Kind regards,

Mr Harris

Leaders Passport

Every Tuesday afternoon, our Year 6 students participate in Leaders Passport. This aims to develop leadership skills, grow their own capacity, and serve others in the community. Students received a beautiful, black compendium which they will use to share and record their journey. The passport includes some whole class activities, and some student-choice activities. The activities are based on developing our students in each of the Pilgrim Student Attributes

As students reach the required achievements in each category, they will receive a badge to demonstrate their learning. They can wear these badges proudly as they work their way through the Passport, all the while challenging themselves and each other, and having a fun time along the way! So far this year students have been sewing and have created bags and hair ties. They have also been busy planning lunch clubs for younger Pilgrim students. You may see posters up in classrooms advertising some different lunch clubs that are coming up soon. We look forward to sharing our learning and growth with you along the way.

Pilgrim Choir Years 3 - 6

After a very successful year in 2023, Kate Tretheway will again be training a Pilgrim School choir with accompaniment from Bess Sarre this year. Students in Years 3 - 6 have the opportunity to join the choir with rehearsals being held on Thursdays during the final lesson of the day. The choir will again be performing a special item in the Musical as well as various performance opportunities throughout the year. We are currently exploring some new performance options for the choir and further information about these will be available in the coming weeks.

All students in Years 3 – 6  will have the opportunity to come to a 'come and try' session.  After this, students who are interested will be asked to commit to the choir.  We look forward to seeing our students continue to develop in confidence and musical ability through this activity.
