Outstanding Achievements

We are thrilled to announce and extend our heartfelt congratulations to Patrick McDonald (Year 8), for achieving the remarkable feat of becoming one of the youngest qualified Surf Lifesavers in the state. Patrick successfully completed all assessment competencies just 12 days after celebrating his 13th birthday.

Patrick's journey towards this achievement began in October, following a qualification ocean pool swim. He underwent rigorous training and demonstrated exceptional skills during the rescue assessment, which included a well-executed board rescue beyond the breakers, recovering a submerged patient, and executing a tube rescue. His proficiency extended to Full CPR and Defibrillator scenarios with both adults and children, as well as demonstrating knowledge of surf conditions and hazards.

The demanding lifesaving course covers various aspects, including a gruelling fitness component, radio calls, beach signals, alarms exams, and more. The uniform was rightfully bestowed upon Patrick upon reaching a level of competence and comfort in handling rescue situations on patrol.

We continue to acknowledge and share the impressive achievements of two more talented individuals, Isaac Turco (Year 8) and Miguel De Nobrega (Year 8), who recently had the honour of being selected to play for NSW in the U13's at the Futsal National Championship held in Queensland during the holiday break. The competition, featuring teams from WA, SA, VIC, QLD, NSW, NSW Country and ACT, proved to be a challenging yet rewarding experience.

Although the journey began with a slow start, facing initial setbacks in the first two games against WA and ACT, the team showed resilience and determination. A remarkable moment came when they drew against QLD, the defending champions. The team's momentum continued to build as they secured victories in the next three matches against SA, NSW Country, and VIC.

The culmination of their efforts led them to the semi-finals against QLD. Despite being 4-1 down at halftime, the team displayed extraordinary tenacity, rallying to a 5-5 score at full time. Regrettably, they lost in extra time to QLD, the eventual winners of the competition. This incredible journey showcases the talent, dedication, and fighting spirit of our players on the national stage. We commend Isaac and Miguel for their outstanding performance and sportsmanship throughout this challenging competition.

It brings us great joy to celebrate the accomplishments of our students, and their successes. If your son has any noteworthy achievements or experiences that you would like to share, please feel free to reach out to me. Whether it's athletic achievements, artistic endeavours, or any other significant milestones outside the classroom, we believe in acknowledging and applauding the diverse talents and accomplishments within our school community.
