Faith, Justice and Formation

Ash Wednesday and Lent

Next week we commence the season of Lent, an important time in our faith when we reflect on our relationship with God and aim to renew it. In this time, we are called to pray, fast and give alms (charity), which we will do as a College, and no doubt individually. On Wednesday we will come together as the Middle School and then the Senior School to receive the ashes as a sign of turning away from sin and being faithful to the Gospel. While fasting is more varied these days we will observe traditional practices by not selling meat at the canteen on Ash Wednesday and each Friday during Lent, as a physical reminder of what we need to do. As per usual, we will also participate in the Lenten Fundraising initiative, with more details to come.

Pope Francis has challenged people to change the world this Lent in his Lenten message for 2024: Through the Desert God Leads Us to FreedomPope challenges the faithful to seek to change the world this Lent - CathNews – so hopefully we can follow his call and take the opportunity to care for the other more fully. His message talks about modern slavery, something all of us are connected to even without realising.

God bless you as you move through this season of preparation, sacrifice, and renewal.
