Level 5

Level  5

This week has seen Level Five strive to do our best and abide by our class culture expectations. The Level Five teachers are so proud of their student’s behaviour, their effort and respect levels.

In Reading we are currently focusing on inferring and answering inferential questions to strengthen comprehension skills. We are doing small bursts of Naplan questions to make our students feel more confident with the Naplan process. In our Writing sessions, students are working on brilliant word choice and opening lines and paragraphs that hook a reader. We have been using mentor texts to model amazing writing to enhance their writing abilities. In Maths, we are concentrating on place value up to the millions with a special emphasis on decimals. Inquiry is encouraging our students to engage in researching specific events that shaped Australia during the 1800s. Friendology has had us working towards being kind to ourselves and others, being open to learning and growing, being honest, brave and having fun at the right times. Respectful relationships has been all about managing intense emotions and calming strategies. Homework will be starting in the coming weeks and is due in on Friday. We understand families are busy so we offer time to complete homework on Friday instead of Friday Fun.

Celebrations from the Week:

  • Students have been producing exceptional WOW work, which is showcased in the BER outside of 5YS.
  • Taytay Day was a delightful event filled with joy and fun!
  • 5/6 Sport practice is progressing well with noticeable improvements as we look forward to our upcoming gala days on the 1st and 12th of March. Go HEPS!
  • Congratulations to our wrist band award recipients!!!
  • Library sessions have been fabulous with all students choosing good fit books and enjoying personal reading time.

Please remind your child to bring their water bottles, journals and charged iPads daily. We would love the students to write their personal reading in their learning journals and attempt to complete their homework consistently. We would be grateful for tissues and wipes if you are able to donate them to the classrooms.

We are grateful for your continued partnership and support as we work together to ensure the holistic development of our students.

Thank you,

Level Five teachers
