Welcome to our new students
Last week we welcomed our new Year 7s along with many other new students from other year levels into our learning community. We are very excited about welcoming your child into our school and their future. We know that they are going to take advantage of all that we offer. I am sure you share our determination in seeing that they are happy and successful.
New Student Promotion Policy
At St Joseph’s College, our mission is to empower every student to reach their highest potential. In line with this commitment, we are excited to announce the implementation of our new Student Promotion Policy in 2024. We firmly believe that with the right support and encouragement, every student can achieve success.
The primary objectives of our promotion policy are to:
- empower students to unlock their full potential
- clearly communicate expectations to students, parents, and educators
- provide a robust framework for assessing student readiness for advancement
At St Joseph's College, we cultivate a culture of responsibility and dedication to learning. We expect our students to:
- submit all assignments and assessments on time, demonstrating their best efforts
- maintain an attendance rate of over 90% and promptly communicate any absences
- take an active role in their academic journey, seeking support when needed
Middle School Promotion Guidelines
For students in Years 7 to 10, a passing grade is an overall achievement grade of D or above. If the overall grade falls below 50%, including modified assessments, the semester result is deemed unsatisfactory. Promotion is granted to students demonstrating a majority of satisfactory grades.
Year 7, 8, & 9 students are required to satisfactorily complete 10 out of 14 semester subjects, including two semesters of English and two semesters of Maths, while maintaining a 90% attendance rate in each subject.
Promotion to Year 11 (VCE):
Students must satisfactorily complete 8 out of 12 semester units, including at least one semester unit of English and Religious Education, and attend at least 90% of classes.
Promotion to Year 12 (VCE):
Students must satisfactorily complete 8 out of 12 semester units, including at least one unit of English/EAL, English Language, or Literature, and maintain a 90% attendance rate.
Students who do not meet promotion requirements will undergo a Performance Review Panel interview to determine the best pathway forward.
St Joseph's College is dedicated to fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment. We offer various programs and resources to support each student's academic and personal growth. Our faculty and staff are committed to providing guidance and support whenever needed.
Through collaboration and a positive atmosphere, we believe every student can excel and achieve their academic goals. St Joseph's College remains committed to ensuring every student receives the necessary support to thrive and succeed.
