Library News

Welcome to 2024

Hello to our wonderful St Joseph’s community and welcome to 2024! We are excited to bring in this new year with both campus libraries stocked and ready to cater to all our inquisitive learners!

A very special welcome to all the bright minds of our new Year 7 cohort at Kildare Campus! We are thrilled to extend a warm welcome to each and every one of you as you embark on this exciting journey of learning and discovery. Your arrival marks the beginning of an enriching chapter in your academic and personal growth, and here in the Kildare Library, we are committed to supporting you every step of the way.

Staffing Update

We have some bittersweet news with the Library community. After her dedicated service as the librarian at our Kildare Campus, Emily Lynch will be moving on to explore new opportunities and challenges in her professional journey. Emily has been an integral part of our library community and her expertise and passion have greatly enriched the experiences of both students and faculty members. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Emily for her invaluable contributions and wish her all the best in her future endeavours.

As we bid farewell to Emily, we also take the opportunity to welcome some new faces to the Kildare Library - Miss Alisha Ryan and Miss Katherine Nicholls, who will bring fresh perspectives and ideas to our library community. Miss Nicholls has been a teacher with us for a while now and she will be splitting her time between the classroom and the library. Miss Ryan is new to our school and she will be sharing her time between the library and working in the classrooms as an ESO. We will share a full bio of our new library staff in our next newsletter.

Reading Room

We're delighted to announce that the Reading Room classes have officially begun at both campuses! This marks the commencement of an enriching program designed to cultivate a love for reading and enhance literacy skills among our students. In these engaging classes, students will have the opportunity to explore a diverse range of literary genres, discover new authors, and delve into captivating stories from around the world. Our experienced educators are dedicated to fostering critical thinking, creativity, and a lifelong appreciation for literature.

Library Procedures & Expectations

  • Respect the Space: The library is a place for quiet study and reflection. Please keep noise to a minimum to ensure a conducive environment for learning and reading.
  • Handle Materials with Care: Treat books, magazines, and other library resources with respect. Handle them gently and return them to their proper place after use.
  • Be Mindful of Others: Remember the library is a shared space. Be considerate of others by avoiding disruptive behavior and respecting their need for concentration.
  • Follow Check-Out Procedures: If you wish to borrow materials from the library, make sure to follow the check-out procedures. This helps us keep track of our inventory and ensures fair access to resources for everyone.
  • No Food, Drink or Backpacks: To preserve the cleanliness of the library and protect our materials from damage, food, drinks and backpacks will not be permitted into the library.
  • Ask for Assistance: If you need help finding a book, conducting research, or navigating library resources, don't hesitate to ask our friendly library staff for assistance. We're here to help!

By adhering to these rules and expectations, we can create a positive and welcoming library environment where everyone can enjoy the benefits of reading and learning.
