Preps

Welcome to our new Preps of 2024. We have had a wonderful start to our school year and are so excited to learn, grow and have lots of fun this year. The Preps have shown they are settled in and ready to learn from day one which has been fantastic. There have been so many new things to learn about school such as new routines, new specialist teachers and all the new faces of other students the Preps see every day. The Preps have done a fabulous job settling in so far and learning all the new goings on around them. 

We have been working on our school start right program which is a great way for the Preps to understand all the routines and processes that they will be involved in day to day. We have completed lessons on lining up, class expectations and how to safely move around the school. 

In English the Preps will be learning two sounds per week (A and S to start off) as well as learning all about heart words and eventually how to blend words together to begin reading. Take home readers will begin in a few weeks where the Preps will be able to continue practising at home. In our writing lessons we are working on basic writing skills such as putting letters on the line, putting spaces between words, and writing left to right on the page. 

In Maths we have been learning all about numbers. We have been doing lots of practise with our counting, making sure the preps touch the items as they are counting. We are also learning match pictures to numbers and sort collections of numbers.
